Realme 12 Pro+ 5G With a Transparent Back Panel Teased to Launch Soon

Realme recently introduced two new models in India – the Realme 12 Pro 5G and the Realme 12 Pro+ 5G. The lower-end Realme 12 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC, while the Pro+ model comes with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. The phones ship with Android 14-based Realme UI 5.0 and triple rear camera units. The Realme 12 Pro+ is offered in three colour options with vegan leather finishes. The model has now been teased to launch with a transparent back panel.

Realme Europe CEO Francis Wong shared a live image of the Realme 12 Pro+ 5G with a see-through back panel on social media website X. We know it is the Realme 12 Pro+ model because the slightly elongated telephoto periscope lens is visible inside the camera module, which notably, is bordered with a similar golden dial as seen in the variants already launched.

Wong teased the imminent launch of the model with this design in the captions but did not specify the launch timeline or availability. It is, therefore, not known at this time if the Indian markets will see the launch of the Realme 12 Pro+ 5G with a transparent back panel.

The Realme 12 Pro+ is offered in India in Navigator Beige, Submarine Blue, and Explorer Red colour options. It starts at Rs. 29,999 for the 8GB + 128GB configuration, while the 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB variants are respectively priced at Rs. 31,999 and Rs. 33,999.

Powered by a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC paired with an Adreno 710 GPU, the Realme 12 Pro+ features a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,080 x 2,400 pixels) OLED display and up to 120Hz refresh rate. It is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with 67W SuperVOOC charging support. The triple rear camera unit of the phone includes a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B sensor with OIS and 3x optical zoom, and an 8-megapixel sensor with an ultra wide-angle lens. The front camera is equipped with a 32-megapixel sensor. The transparent rear panel variant teased will likely carry similar specifications to the models with faux leather finishes.

Realme 12 Pro+ Key Specifications Leaked Ahead of Launch; To Get a 64-Megapixel Periscope Camera

Realme 12 5G series is just days away from being launched in India. The Chinese smartphone maker has confirmed that the series, which will likely include two phones — the Realme 12 Pro and the Realme 12 Pro+ — will be launched on January 29 at 12 pm IST. In the previous weeks, some of the specifications of the smartphones were leaked online, and now, a picture of a retail box packaging has surfaced, which reveals more details about the Realme 12 Pro+. Reportedly, the handset might get a 64-megapixel periscope zoom lens.

The leaked image (via GSMArena) shows what appears to be the back of the Realme 12 Pro+ retail box, with the name of the device mentioned on top. The specifications mentioned on the box highlight a periscope portrait camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a Sony IMX890 OIS camera, a Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 chipset, and a curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Realme 12 Pro+ specifications

The new information corroborates earlier leaks and the specifications shared by the company. The handset is expected to feature a 6.7-inch curved AMOLED FHD+ display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It is also rumoured to feature in-display fingerprint sensors. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset could be paired with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, as per the leaked image.

Official images of the Realme 12 Pro+ have revealed that the smartphone will get a triple rear camera setup in a circular module. The two cameras in the setup are expected to be a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary shooter with OIS and a 64-megapixel periscope lens with 120x zoom capabilities. The details of the third camera are not known. However, it is likely to be an ultrawide lens.

The company has also revealed that the Realme 12 Pro+ could be available in Navigator Beige and Submarine Blue colourways. The handset gets a golden metallic dial for the camera module, a centrally placed metallic band stretching from the phone’s top to the bottom, and a leather-like finish.

The Realme 12 Pro+ is tipped to be backed by a 5,000mAh battery with 67W wired fast charging support. It is expected to come out of the box with Android 14-based Realme UI 5.

Realme Set to Announce New Phone in India on January 3, Could Be Realme 12 Series

Realme is gearing up for a host of new smartphone launches in 2024. Most recently, the Chinese electronics manufacturer debuted the Realme C67 5G in India last month, with a 4G variant of the handset also following suit. Now, Realme India has confirmed that it would share a new update on an upcoming phone soon. It is speculated that company’s next smartphone launch in the country could be the Realme 12 series or the Realme GT 5 Pro, which was unveiled in China in December.

Realme India shared an update New Year’s morning on X (formerly Twitter), teasing an upcoming smartphone launch. “Stay tuned for the real update,” the post read, marking January 3, 7.30 AM IST for a possible launch date reveal for an unnamed handset. While the company did not share any details or teaser images of a device in the post, it invited other users to guess what the update was about.

It has been speculated that the update post could be alluding to the upcoming launch of the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+. The two phones were recently spotted on the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) website, suggesting an imminent launch. The Realme 12 series handsets were reportedly listed on the TDRA website with model numbers RMX3842 and RMX3840, respectively. The listing confirmed the monikers for the smartphones and indicated 5G connectivity on the handsets.

The Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ were earlier also spotted on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website, hinting at an upcoming India launch. The high-end Pro+ model was also reportedly spotted on Indonesia’s SDPPI certification site.

It’s worth noting that Realme has not officially announced the 12 series yet. The company has, however, teased a new flagship smartphone with a periscope camera. Realme posted a teaser on X last week, hinting at the launch of a new smartphone with enhanced zoom capabilities in the country. The phone is speculated to be the Realme 12 Pro+.

Tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) had reposted the teaser image and claimed that the phone would be Realme 12 Pro+ and would debut by the end of January or in February. The Redmi 12 Pro+ is also tipped to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series chipset, most likely the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC.

The latest Redmi update referring to a January 3 announcement could also be related to the Realme GT 5 Pro. The handset launched in China on December 7, packed with flagship specs like Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, a 1.5K resolution display with 144Hz refresh rate and up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness, and a triple rear camera unit led by a 50-megapixel primary Sony LYT-808 sensor. The Realme GT 5 Pro starts at CNY 3,298 (roughly Rs. 40,000) for the base 12GB RAM + 256GB variant. The company has not yet confirmed an Indian launch timeline for the phone.

Realme might not want the Mini Capsule to be the defining feature of the Realme C55, but will it end up being one of the phone’s most talked-about hardware specifications? We discuss this on Orbital, the Gadgets 360 podcast. Orbital is available on Spotify, Gaana, JioSaavn, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and wherever you get your podcasts.
