Google Pixel 8a Price Leaked Ahead of Anticipated Launch at Google I/O 2024

Google Pixel 8a is likely to be launched by the company next month at its annual Google I/O 2024 event, and details of the smartphone have been leaked several times over the past few weeks. The purported Pixel 8a price has also been spotted online, and it looks like customers will have to pay a slightly higher amount to purchase Google’s most affordable Pixel 8-series smartphone this year. The successor to last year’s Pixel 7a is also expected to receive some AI-related (artificial intelligence) features.

Google Pixel 8a price (rumoured)

PassionateGeekz reports that the price of the Pixel 8a in Canada — where the phone was listed by a retailer — will be CAD 708.99 (roughly Rs. 42,830) for the 128GB storage configuration, while the 256GB variant will cost CAD 792.99 (roughly Rs. 47,900). The publication did not reveal the name of the Canadian retailer that listed both variants of the Pixel 8a.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 8a will cost between Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,000 more than its predecessor — the Pixel 7a — in India, according to the report. Readers might recall that Google launched the Pixel 7a in May 2023, priced at Rs. 43,999 for the sole 8GB+128GB RAM and storage configuration.

Google Pixel 8a specifications (rumoured)

Google is likely to equip the Pixel 8a with its Tensor G3 chip that powers the Pixel 8 series of smartphones, which enables support for AI models on the smartphone. However, it is currently unclear whether the Pixel 8a will offer the same compatibility as te more expensive Pixel 8a modes  It could be equipped with a 6.1-inch OLED screen, with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone is expected to offer 5G and 4G LTE connectivity, just like last year’s model.

The upcoming Pixel 8a is tipped to arrive with a dual camera setup that comprises a 64-megapixel primary camera and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera. The smartphone is also said to measure 153.44 x 72.74 x 8.94mm, which is similar to its predecessor, the Pixel 7a. This year’s model is also expected to have an IP rating for dust and water resistance, and offer support for wireless charging.

Google Pixel 8a Design, Specifications Tipped via Alleged Retail Box; Could Offer 27W Fast Charging

Google started selling its new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in October last year. A less expensive version —Pixel 8a— is expected to debut in May as a successor to last year’s Pixel 7a. The handset could feature a new processor and upgraded cameras and is expected to come with a design inspired by the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Ahead of the official debut, alleged images of the Pixel smartphone’s retail box have leaked online, suggesting its model number, design, and specifications. The Pixel 8a is said to include dual rear cameras and might offer 27W wired fast charging.

Vietnamese user Hung Nv (via No name (@chunvn8888)) posted alleged retail box images of the Google Pixel 8a on a private Facebook group. The image suggests a G6GPR model number for the handset. The retail packaging shows the phone in a black shade with rounded corners similar to the Pixel 8 handsets. It appears to have a dual camera setup on the rear alongside an LED flash placed inside the visor-like camera module. The power button and volume rockers are seen on the right side of the handset.

The design of the Pixel 8a appears to match what we saw on multiple leaked renders earlier. The retail box image suggests that the smartphone will support 27W wired fast charging.

Google is believed to announce the Pixel 8a at its I/O event sometime in May. The handset is expected to debut as a mid-range offering. The price of the Pixel 8 in India starts at Rs. 75,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model, while the Pixel 8 Pro starts at Rs. 1,06,999 for the 12GB RAM + 128GB storage model. Meanwhile, the Google Pixel 7a is priced at Rs. 43,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model.

The Pixel 8a is tipped to get a 6.1-inch display with 90Hz refresh rate and run on Google’s Tensor G3 SoC. It is said to measure 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9mm.

Google Pixel 8a Dummy Unit Leaks, Hints at Rounder Design, Dual Rear Camera Setup

Google Pixel 8a is expected to debut next year as the successor to the Pixel 7a that was unveiled this year. The company’s more affordable version of the Pixel 8 isn’t likely to be unveiled for a few more months — based on Google’s previous midrange phone launch schedule, but details of the phone have already begun to surface online. A tipster has now leaked images of the purported Pixel 8a, giving us an idea of what to expect in terms of design and dimensions.

Tipster David Kowalski (@xleaks7) leaked (via Phandroid) a metal dummy unit of the Pixel 8a on X (formerly known as Twitter) showing the front and rear sides of the phone. It is currently unclear whether the aluminium dummy model has been created based on leaked information, but it suggests that the Pixel 8a will feature a design that is very similar to the Pixel 8.

The image of the dummy unit shows the purported Pixel 8a sporting a display with thick bezels — these appear much larger than the Pixel 8 — and a centre-aligned hole punch cutout to house the selfie camera. It is tipped to measure 153.44 x 72.74 x 8.94mm, which is similar to its predecessor.

A second image shared by the tipster shows the rear side of the Pixel 8a that suggests a dual rear camera setup. Detailed camera specifications have not been revealed. The Pixel 7a was equipped with a 64-megapixel primary camera and a 13-megapixel secondary ultra-wide camera.

Last month, leaked renders of the Pixel 8a surfaced online, suggesting that it will feature a 6.1-inch display. As a result, the midrange handset could be slightly smaller than the Pixel 8 that was recently launched in India and global markets alongside the Pixel 8 Pro. Those leaked images also showed the Pixel 8a sporting larger bezels than the standard model.

At the time, tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) claimed that the Pixel 8a would measure 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9mm — lower than the measurements of its predecessor. This tipster has a better track record when it comes to leaking details of smartphones before they are unveiled, but we can expect to see more details about the handset in the months before it is launched.
