Nothing Phone 1 Android 14-Based Nothing OS 2.5 Stable Update Rolling Out to Users

Nothing Phone 1 currently runs stable Android 13-based Nothing OS 1.5. The company has now announced that that it has started to roll out the Android 14-based stable Nothing OS 2.5 update for the Phone 1. In the detailed changelog, the update is said to bring improvements across different features including the signature Glyph Interface. It also introduces newer customisations and gestures and is claimed to enhance several user experiences on the handset. Notably, the Nothing Phone 1 launched in India in July 2022.

According to the changelog listed by Nothing, the Nothing OS 2.5 update for Nothing Phone 1 introduces a redesigned joint Home and Lock Screen customisation page said to offer a refined edit wallpaper flow to give a more comprehensive options view. It introduces a new Atmosphere wallpaper effect that helps transform the background image into a dynamic wallpaper and a seamless transition between the lock and home screen. The update also adds a monochrome theme to the basic colour section and presents solid colour wallpapers.

The Glyph Interface also sees augmentations with this update. It allows users direct access to the Interface’s Music Visualisation feature and is claimed to offer an overall improved Glyph light playback effect during device audio synchronisation. The update also unveils a new Glyph animation to notify NFC use and is said to improve the Flip to Glyph experience.

With the stable Nothing OS 2.5 update, Nothing Phone 1 users can customise the double-press power button gesture for quick access to any feature. The update also reveals new Lock Screen shortcut options like Do Not Disturb, Mute, QR code scanner, and video camera. It enables a three-finger swipe gesture for a screenshot and adds a new screenshot editor and menu. This update also automatically excludes a preview of the previous screenshot when taking continuous screenshots. The back gesture arrow visual has also been redesigned.

Alongside an updated Quick Settings layout that now supports showing more device icons, it adds support for switching ring modes and setting network. The update also brings Pedometer, Media Player, and Screen Time widgets. Users can customise the ringtone and notification sound volumes separately with the Nothing OS 2.5 update. It is also said to provide optimised camera stability. The update is claimed to enhance overall smoothness and responsiveness with improved system stability and battery life.

Nothing Phone 1 Receiving Android 14-Based Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 Update

Nothing released the stable Nothing OS 2.5 update for the Phone 2 last week. Now, the Carl Pei-backed UK-based company is rolling out the Nothing OS 2.5 open beta 1 for its first smartphone — Nothing Phone 1. The new software based on Android 14, brings several new security, and privacy features to the handset alongside Glyph improvements. The Nothing Phone 1 will get a redesigned home and lock screen customisation page with the latest update. It brings new widgets, camera stability, and system stability improvements.

Through its official X account, Nothing announced the rollout of Nothing OS 2.5 open beta 1 for the Phone 1. As per the changelog shared on Nothing’s community forum, the latest update brings some basic Android 14 features alongside the list of upgrades under Nothing OS.

Nothing OS 2.5 open beta 1 brings a redesigned home and lock screen customisation page. It adds an atmosphere wallpaper effect to transform a background photo into a wallpaper by adding motion to colours on the home screen. The update includes solid colour wallpapers and a monochrome colour theme.

Additionally, Nothing OS 2.5 includes a customisable double-press power gesture button to quickly access a chosen feature with a simple tap. This can be availed by heading to Settings > System > Gestures. The update introduces new lock screen shortcut options like Do Not Disturb, Mute, QR code scanner, and video camera. The new software adds a three-finger swipe gesture for capturing screenshots and includes a new screenshot editor and menu.

Nothing Phone 1 gets new widgets with the Android 14 beta update. These include a new pedometer widget to track steps, a media player displaying currently playing songs, and a screen time widget to monitor daily screen time. The Phone 1 users will have to update their Nothing Launcher and Nothing Widgets app to the latest version on the Google Play Store to use the new widgets.

Further, Nothing OS 2.5 introduces a new Glyph animation for when NFC is being used. It also optimises the Flip to Glyph experience alongside improving Quick Settings and the stability of the camera.

To install the Nothing OS 2.5 open beta 1, users need to ensure that their Phone 1 is running on the latest version of Nothing OS. They have to download the Install Beta APK. Once it has been installed from the downloads users can get the update by heading to Settings > System > Update to Beta version. It is recommended to update the handset while it is connected to a strong Wi-Fi network and is charging.

Nothing Phone 2 Users Get a Taste of Android 14 With Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1

Nothing announced the Android 14-based Nothing OS 2.5 on Wednesday. The company listed the upgrades and new features that come with the update. Google released Android 14 for supported Pixel phones earlier in October at its Made by Google event alongside the Pixel 8 series phones. The Open Beta 1 version of Nothing OS 2.5 is currently being offered for all Nothing Phone 2 users. It is suggested that the users back up their data before testing out the new Beta OS update on their handsets.

In a Nothing Community post, the company announced that with the Android 14-based Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 update, users will be able to choose a monochromatic theme in the basic colour option. The update also brings a new back gesture one can use while switching between apps. The Quick Settings section of the app has also received an upgrade in layout including a new Nothing Buds icon, which can be seen in the image shared on this X (formerly Twitter) post by Nothing.

The Android 14-based Nothing OS update offers more Lock Screen shortcut options including do not disturb, mute, and QR code scanner. This update also allows users to adjust ringtone and notification volumes separately. It introduces regional settings in the phones, that enables users to customise their units and numbers preferences. It also gets an updated photo widget, a new screenshot editor, and the option to hide app icons on the Home Screen and app drawer.

Nothing Phone 2 users opting to update to the Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 version can now capture screenshots with a three-finger swipe on the screen. They can also customise a particular feature to align with the double-press power button action. It gets a revamped Home Screen and Lock Screen customisation page and also a new glass filter to accompany the wallpapers. Speaking of which, users can now also choose from new solid colour wallpaper options.

For Nothing Phone 2 users using the Nothing OS 2.0.3 version, they will need to download the Nothing OS Beta tool APK file (link available on the Community post), and install the app to get the Update to Beta version option in Settings. Then they can go to Settings > System > Update to Beta version to get the Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 update. If the update is not visible, then the users can click on Check for new version and follow the steps as listed. The company has noted that since this is a beta version, it may interfere with the data and factory reset. It is advisable to back up all data before testing this update. There is also a rollback option available for users that has been detailed in the community post.
