Nothing to Soon Integrate ChatGPT With Its Entire Audio Lineup and CMF Earphones

Nothing is expanding ChatGPT integration to its entire audio device lineup as well as all the earphones launched under its CMF brand. The London-based smartphone brand launched the Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear A last month which were the first wireless earphones from the brand to get a native integration of OpenAI’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. Users could trigger the chatbot by just pinching the stem of the device. Now, this functionality is being expanded to all the earphones by the brand.

The announcement came from the official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle of Nothing, which also mentioned the list of earphones that will be getting the feature. As per the company, Ear 1, Ear Stick, Ear 2, CMF Buds, CMF Neckband Pro, and CMF Buds Pro will also receive ChatGPT integration. Interestingly, this list also includes the Ear 1, the first wireless earphones by the company.

However, there are a couple of caveats before users can access ChatGPT directly through their earphones. First, there is a double opt-in process. Nothing co-founder and CEO Carl Pei explained in a separate post that users will have to first download the ChatGPT app on the smartphone, and then configure the trigger to activate the chatbot via the Nothing X app. Further, the integration will only work when the earphones are paired with Nothing’s smartphones. However, once these conditions are met, users can easily access the AI model without requiring the phone.

The ChatGPT integration allows users to ask a verbal query to the chatbot and get the response directly via the earphones. This integration is expected to be improved now that OpenAI has unveiled the GPT-4o model which offers real-time verbal conversations and emotive voices. Further, with real-time video processing, the user can also show the chatbot something and get an instant response about it. These features are slowly being rolled out by the AI firm.

While the list does not include the Nothing Ear and Ear A earphones, they already have the ChatGPT integration. Launched in April, the earphones are equipped with 11mm dynamic drivers, support up to 45dB ANC, and feature a transparency mode. Both the earphones sport an in-ear detection feature as well as allow Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair.

Nothing Ear, Nothing Ear A New Renders Surface Online; Pricing Tipped

Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear A are confirmed to launch on April 18. Days ahead of the official debut, alleged renders of the truly wireless stereo (TWS) earphones have surfaced on the Web alongside their price points and specifications. The renders suggest a semi-transparent design for the upcoming earphones, similar to their predecessors. The Nothing Ear A are tipped to come with active noise cancellation (ANC) of up to 45dB and offer an IP54-rated build.

Known tipster Ishan Agarwal (@ishanagarwal24) has posted alleged renders, pricing, and specifications of Nothing Ear and Ear A on X. The images suggest a design identical to Nothing’s previous wireless earbuds. They appear to have a semi-transparent case and stem. The Nothing Ear A are shown in black, white, and yellow shades, while the Nothing Ear are shown in black and white colourways. The renders show “Nothing” engraved on the stem and they seem to have red and white dots to indicate the left and right sides, same as before.

As per the tipster, the Nothing Ear A will cost EUR 99 (roughly Rs. 8,000). They are said to offer up to 45dB ANC and dual connection. They might offer up to eight hours of battery life with ANC off and are said to get IP54 water resistance. The new leak corroborates previous reports.

On the other hand, the Nothing Ear are tipped to be priced at EUR 149 (roughly Rs. 13,000). The tipster believes that the earbuds will be priced below Rs. 9,999 in India.

Nothing will announce its Ear A and Ear TWS earphones on Thursday, April 18. The UK-based brand currently has three audio products in its portfolio — Nothing Ear 1, Ear 2, and the Ear Stick. With the upcoming earphones, Nothing decided to change their naming convention. The Nothing Ear earbuds are expected to pack considerable upgrades over the Ear 2. The latter are priced at Rs. 9,999 in India.

Nothing Ear, Nothing Ear A Confirmed to Launch on April 18 as Company Resets Naming Strategy

Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear A will be launched by the company next month, the UK startup led by OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei announced on Friday. The firm’s third generation of truly wireless stereo (TWS) audio products was previously expected to make its debut as the Nothing Ear 3, but the company announced that it was resetting its naming strategy for its products, starting with the successor to the Ear 2 TWS headset. Nothing will also launch a second audio product with an “a” suffix, similar to the Phone 2a.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Nothing confirmed that it will launch two new products on April 18 — the Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear A. The Nothing Ear is expected to succeed the Nothing Ear 2 that was launched in 2023. It is currently unclear whether the Nothing Ear A will arrive as a cheaper version of the Nothing Ear.

It is interesting to see that Nothing is planning to release audio products with the alphabetical suffix — the company launched the Nothing Phone 2a, a mid-range smartphone that arrived months after the debut of the more expensive Phone 2 last year.

If the upcoming Nothing Ear A is launched as a cheaper version of the Nothing Ear, it could end up competing with Nothing’s own sub-brand CMF that also sells affordable TWS audio products that are priced between Rs. 2,499 and Rs. 3,499 in India. Alternatively, the company could launch the Nothing Ear around the Rs. 10,000 mark and the Ear A could be positioned around the Rs. 5,000 mark.

Nothing says that the decision to reset its naming strategy to exclude numbers was taken after the company reached a three-year milestone, adding that it wants to centre the focus around the product. We can speculate that subsequent models will include the year that the product was launched, in order to differentiate them from their predecessors.
