Jerry Jones sexual assault lawsuit revived after being dismissed

A sexual assault lawsuit against Jerry Jones that had previously been dismissed has been revived.

The Dallas Morning News reported that an appellate court in Texas ruled Monday that the suit should proceed. In February, the case had been dismissed by the Dallas County district court.

“We always knew we were going to win because the law was on our side,” the plaintiff’s attorney, Daniel Bowers, told the Dallas Morning News. “A victim’s finally going to get her day in court and that’s very important.”

The suit, which was originally filed in 2020 and alleged that an incident occurred at the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in 2018, claims that the Cowboys owner “kissed her on the mouth and forcibly grabbed her without her consent.”

The Cowboys are also defendants in the lawsuit, which claims the organization “knew or should have known of Jones’s misconduct.” The NFL was listed as a defendant in the original suit but is not named in the appeal.

Jones’ attorney did not immediately respond to a voicemail from the outlet.

In his response to the filing in court, Jones said that the allegations were “malicious and hurtful.”

The accuser goes by the initials J.G.; her identity is not otherwise known. In the suit, she claimed that she suffered “severe emotional distress” and “psychological pain and suffering.” She also said that she incurred medical expenses.

The suit was originally dismissed after a judge said that the plaintiff had a special exemptions order with which she failed to comply. Conversely, the appellate court said that the accuser “made a good faith attempt to amend her pleadings in response to the court’s special exceptions order …” and that “… the trial court abused its discretion in dismissing appellant’s claims.”

Jones is also facing a paternity suit from a woman named Alexandra Davis, who says she is his daughter. In December, Jones was ordered by a judge to take a paternity test.

On the Cowboys front, Jones announced earlier this offseason that Mike McCarthy will return for a fourth season as head coach despite a “sickening” 19-12 first-round playoff loss to the 49ers.

Cowboys’ Jerry Jones shuts down potential Pollard-Elliott controversy

Jerry Jones left no doubt who the Cowboys starting running back is.

Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott didn’t play Sunday in the Cowboys’ 49-29 win over the Chicago Bears due to a knee injury, which meant Tony Pollard was thrust into the starting running back role.

Pollard showed out, rushing for 131 yards on 14 carries and scoring three touchdowns. It seemed like the Cowboys didn’t even need Elliott in their thrashing of the Bears, but that doesn’t seem to change how owner Jerry Jones feels about the team’s situation at he position when Pollard and Elliot are healthy. Jones shut down any inkling of a brewing running back controversy, strongly endorsing Elliott’s value to the team.

“There’s no argument,” Jones told reporters. “Zeke’s ability to punish, Zeke’s ability to deliver, Zeke’s ability, what he does for us in pass protection, and, frankly, Zeke’s ability to make big plays are there, and we’re going to go where Zeke goes. He’s that integral to our success.”

It’s probably good for the Cowboys that Jones is backing Elliott up considering the massive, six-year $90 million contract extension he signed in September 2019, which made him the highest-paid running back in the NFL.

The game itself was a blowout. At one point in the first half, the Cowboys held a 28-7 lead, but the Bears cut it down to 28-17 at the half and made it a one-score game at 28-23 early in the third quarter.

From that point on, however, the Cowboys outscored the Bears 21-6 including a Micah Parsons 36-yard scoop and score towards the end of the third quarter.

With the win, the Cowboys move to 6-2 and stay one-and-a-half games back of the Eagles, who improved to 7-0 with a win over the Steelers, in the NFC East standings.

Dak Prescott could return by Week 3

Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones said Sunday Dak Prescott could return to the lineup earlier than most expected.

“He’s got a chance, maybe the third or fourth game,” the CEO said on 105.3 The Fan about Prescott’s recovery. “We’ll see what happens.”

Prescott fractured his thumb in the Cowboys’ Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers, leading to a diagnosis of 6-8 weeks out. Stephen Jones confirmed owner Jerry Jones’ comments about quarterback Dak Prescott’s speedy recovery.

The Cowboys owner said last Tuesday Prescott would not be placed on injured reserve, which would require him to miss a minimum of four games, because the Cowboys believed he could resume throwing sooner rather than later.

If the two Jones’ predictions are right, Prescott could return as soon as next Monday against the Giants.

Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy said he’s had to keep Prescott away from practice to not tempt him from rushing his recovery.

While waiting on Prescott’s return, the Cowboys are turning to quarterback Cooper Rush, who led the Cowboys to a 20-17 win against the Bengals Sunday.

Rush went off, going for 19 of 31 with 235 yards and a touchdown. The backup also had a winning drive that eventually led to a game-winning field goal by kicker Brett Maher.
