Honor 90 5G to Launch in India on September 14: Expected Price, Specifications

Honor 90 5G is all set to hit the Indian market next week. The HTech company, via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday (September 7), has confirmed the launch of the new handset in the country. It is teased to come with a 200-megapixel triple rear camera setup. The Honor 90 5G is confirmed to pack 3840Hz of PWM dimming. The handset made its debut in the Chinese market in May alongside the Honor 90 Pro. 

The Honor 90 5G will be launched in India on September 14. The launch event will begin at 12:30pm IST. The HTech brand has also started sending media invites for the launch. The smartphone is confirmed to go on sale through Amazon.

Honor 90 5G specifications (expected)

HTech is actively teasing the arrival of a new handset via X. It is teased to come equipped with a 1.5K resolution TUV Rheinland-certified display with up to 1600 nits peak brightness, 435ppi pixel density, and 3840Hz PWM (pulse-width modulation) dimming.

Further, Amazon India’s website carries a microsite revealing the specifications of the Honor 90 5G. It is confirmed to run on Android 13-based MagicOS 7.1. Like the Chinese counterpart, it will be equipped with a triple camera setup, comprising of a 200-megapixel primary camera. For selfies and video chats, the handset will pack a 50-megapixel front camera.

The Chinese variant of the Honor 90 5G has a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,200 x 2,664 pixels) curved OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It runs on a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, paired with up to 16GB RAM and a maximum of 512GB onboard storage. It is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 66W wired fast charging.

Honor 90 5G price in India (expected)

The Honor 90 5G was launched in China in May with an initial price tag of CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 29,000) for the base 12GB + 256GB variant. The 16GB + 256GB and 16GB + 512GB variants are priced at CNY 2,799 (roughly Rs. 32,680) and CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 35,017), respectively. India pricing of the handset could be in line with this. As per a past leak, it could be priced at around Rs. 35,000 in India.

Honor withdrew its operations from India in 2020. Madhav Sheth, former Realme Vice President for Business and Corporate Strategy, will lead HTech’s operations in India.

Honor 90 to Get Google Apps, No Bloatware, and Offer 2 Years of Software Updates in India: Madhav Sheth

Honor 90 is confirmed to launch in India soon although the date has not yet been set. The handset was released in China earlier this year in May alongside the Honor 90 Pro. Madhav Sheth, previously associated with Realme India and the current HonorTech CEO has said that the Indian variant of the Honor 90, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC and backed by a 5,000mAh battery with 66W wired fast charging support, will launch with bloatware-free software.

In an official Honor YouTube interaction called AskMadhav 2.0, the company CEO said that the awaited Honor 90 will be released in India with pre-installed Google applications, but only the ones that users use and are truly productive like Google Maps, Google Drive, etc. He added that the phone will come with a “smooth, stable, and non-intrusive” UI, essentially ensuring bloatware-free software.

Sheth confirmed that the phone will ship with Android 13-based MagicOS 7.1 user interface. He also stated that the Honor 90 India variant will feature a durable, quad-curved AMOLED floating screen but went no further into revealing the specifications. He added that the company will provide two years of Android upgrades and three years of security updates. The executive reassured that the model will be released in India soon, but did not announce a particular date.

Expected to compete with other smartphones in the market like the OnePlus Nord 3 5G, iQoo Neo 7 Pro, and Poco F5 5G, the Honor 90 has been tipped to launch in India at around Rs. 35,000. Offered in Diamond Silver, Emerald Green, Midnight Black and Peacock Blue colour options, with availability varying in regions, the handset launched in China starting at CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 29,160) for the 12GB + 256GB storage variant.

While revealing the specifications and features of the phone, Chaudhary also claimed that the smartphone could make its debut in India in September. The phone is expected to carry similar specifications as its global variant and could be available in an Emerald Green colourway with a quad-curved design.

The global variant of the Honor 90 is equipped with a triple rear camera setup housed in two separate circular camera modules alongside an LED Flash. It features a 200-megapixel primary camera accompanied by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide and macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth camera. There is also a 50-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.

Honor 90 price is set at CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 29,160) for the base 12GB + 256GB RAM and storage configuration, while the phone is also available in 16GB + 256GB and 16GB + 512GB variants priced at CNY 2,799 (roughly Rs. 32,680) and CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 35,017), respectively. 

On the other hand, the Honor 90 Pro is available in a 12GB + 256GB RAM and storage configuration that is priced at CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs. 38,500), along with 16GB + 256GB and 16GB + 512GB variants that cost CNY 3,599 (roughly Rs. 42,000) and CNY 3,899 (roughly Rs. 45,500), respectively. 

Both phones are currently available to order in China will go on sale in the country on June 7.

The newly launched Honor 90 and Honor 90 Pro are dual-SIM (Nano) handsets that run on MagicOS 7.1 based on Android 13. They sport 6.7-inch (Honor 90) and 6.78-inch (Honor 90 Pro) full-HD+ (1,200 x 2,664 pixels) curved OLED displays with a refresh rate of 120Hz, up to 1,600 nits peak brightness, and 3,840Hz pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming. The Honor 90 and Honor 90 Pro are powered by Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipsets, respectively.

For photos and videos, the Honor 90 and Honor 90 Pro are equipped with triple camera setups and both phones feature a 200-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture, as well as a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture. The Honor 90 also has a 2-megapixel depth sensor, while the third rear camera on the Honor 90 Pro is a 32-megapixel telephoto portrait lens with 2.5x optical zoom, 50x hybrid zoom, and an f/2.4 aperture. 

Both phones are equipped with a 50-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture, while the Honor 90 Pro also features an additional 2-megapixel depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.

These handsets are equipped with up to 512GB of onboard storage. Connectivity option include 5G, 4G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The Honor 90 and Honor 90 Pro pack a 5,000mAh battery with support for 66W and 90W wired charging, respectively.
