Georgia hero cop Alexis Callaway saves choking baby: bodycam

A Georgia cop is being applauded for her heroic efforts in saving a choking baby from dying.

Dramatic body cam footage shows Senoia Police Officer Alexis Callaway spring into action when a four-week-old baby suddenly began to choke.

“No hesitation. I saw the baby. Saw that it was the grandmother that had the baby,” Callaway told FOX 5 Atlanta. “I took it. Made myself at home and started going.”

The cop, who joined Senoia police in 2020, rushed into the child’s home and snapped up the baby before administering first aid.

“I’ve been certified since the age of 16 and working with kids and stuff like that,” Callaway told the outlet.

After performing first aid, which included repeatedly patting the baby’s back and turning him, bodycam footage showed the child successfully spit out the obstructing liquid and begin to breathe normally.

“It is supposed to release anything that could be obstructing the airway,” Callaway said of the life-saving technique. “And you are supposed to have them angled kind of downward to help get them lodged out.”

Callaway’s act of bravery did not go unnoticed. She will be receiving the Senoia Police Department’s lifesaving award in a ceremony next month.

“It’s rewarding, I think he was one month old, now gets the rest of his life,” she added.

The officer urged others to learn the basics of CPR and first aid in case they, too, could one day save a life.

“Prevent what could have been a disastrous outcome in that even during that time of mayhem, she brought just a sense of calm to that entire incident,” Senoia Police Department’s Captain Jason Ercole said of Callaway’s actions.

Kidnapped girl recalls how she carried brother to safety

A 9-year-old Las Vegas girl who carried her baby brother to safety after the siblings were abducted by a carjacker has recounted how she pleaded with the man to let them go.

Nyla Prentiss and her 11-month-old brother King were in the backseat of the Dodge SUV when their mom, Karen Quinn, stopped to use an ATM about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 25.

The suspect, 38-year-old Mario Estrada, jumped inside the vehicle and drove off as Quinn desperately tried to stop him – begging him to let her kids out.

As he bolted away, Nyla also pleaded for him to stop, Fox 5 Vegas reported.

“I was like, ‘Please sir, please let us out the car,’” the plucky fourth-grader told the news outlet.

“‘I ain’t got nothing to do with this, please just take the car and let us go,’” Nyla said she told the man.

Recounting the harrowing experience, Nyla said the suspect had looked at her mother “in a strange way, and then he, he ran outside, and then he tried to open my mom’s door.

“And then my mom came outside and she was like, ‘What are you doing next to my car?’” the girl said.

Quinn said she had locked the door before stepping inside the store briefly, but that it unlocked when the car’s technology sensed that her key was nearby as she rushed to confront the suspect.

“So her car unlocked and then he got in the car and he zoomed,” Nyla told Fox 5 Vegas. “And I didn’t want to put my hands on him because he was driving fast and I didn’t want to die, so… and then he turned and he went the other way.”

Nyla managed to make her way back with King to the 7-Eleven a few blocks away while running barefoot.

After a few terrifying moments, the man pulled over and uttered, “Get out,” she said.

“The only thing I was worried about was my little brother. And so I tried to grab my shoes, and he didn’t let me. He was like, ‘Here, get out.’ So I grabbed his binky and me and him ran,” Nyla said.

Nyla suffers from a rare disease that caused her kidney to painfully swell during the terrifying incident, her mom said.

But despite the pain and terror, the girl found her way back to the 7-Eleven about five blocks away – running barefoot while clutching her brother.

“I was looking for some lights, and then I saw the 7-Eleven that we was at, and then I went in there and I was shaking and crying,” Nyla recounted.

Police who were working at the scene located both the children and called Quinn to tell her the good news.

An officer soon spotted the stolen SUV on I-15, leading to a high-speed pursuit that ended when Estrada crashed into another vehicle.

He allegedly climbed out of the wrecked Dodge and tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.

Estrada faces 10 charges, including child abuse or neglect, second-degree kidnapping and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.

Florida man rescues stranded cat during Hurricane Ian

A Florida man became the darling of Hurricane Ian after he went viral in a video showing him rescuing a stranded cat surrounded by a rising flood.

Mike Ross, 29, is seen making his way to the frightened feline sitting atop an air-conditioning unit at the side of a house in Bonita Springs as the water comes gushing.

“My boyfriend saving a cat from flood waters near Bonita Beach,” Megan Cruz Scavo said in a tweet accompanying the heart-rending footage.

“Look at Michael saving the kitty. Awww,” Ross’ mom, Marybeth, is heard saying as she filmed the rescue.

Ross told the Washington Post that he noticed the “terrified” orange and white cat about 2 p.m. Wednesday after he sought shelter in his parents’ home while his house became submerged at the height of the storm.

“The storm surge had rushed up quite a bit at that point,” he told the newspaper.

Ross went viral for saving the soggy kitty and gained the attention of women who gushed over his heroics.

As of Thursday morning, the video of selfless cat saver has racked up more than 2.8 million views – as well as a flood of messages from love-struck women.

Adoring fans on social media view him as quite a catch.

“I’m sorry, Megan, but he is everyone’s boyfriend now. I don’t make the rules,” added Lulu Mac.
