Google Pixel 7 Pro Display Draining Its Battery Faster: Report

Google’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones are finally reaching customers in India, but there seem to be a few problems with the Pixel 7 Pro. The recently reported issues seem to be connected with the display in particular and as per a report, it only appears to affect the Pixel 7 Pro. The Pixel 7 Pro comes with a 6.7-inch QHD+ LTPO AMOLED display that offers 120Hz refresh rate and 1,500nits peak brightness. Meanwhile, the Pixel 7 gets a 6.3-inch full-HD+ AMOLED panel with 90Hz refresh rate.

A report by XDA points out how the Pixel 7 Pro’s display is a bit of a power hog. The report mentions that the Pixel 7 Pro’s 6.7-inch QHD+ LTPO AMOLED panel draws more power than expected leading to the battery depleting faster. This according to the source happens primarily when the smartphone is used outdoors where the ambient light sensor cranks up the display’s brightness. The Pixel 7 Pro’s display consumes about 3.5-4W at 600 nits, which is around half the brightness levels that the display is capable of. In high-brightness mode, which is around 1000 nits, the display consumes 6W. Samsung’s Galaxy S22+ in comparison consumes 2W at 600 nits and 4W at 1000 nits.

Gadgets 360’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro review units are still undergoing testing. But we can confirm that we have noticed battery drain issues with the bigger Pixel 7 Pro, which is lasting just a day with casual use (minimal camera and gaming usage).

A tweet by Prasad Naik also pointed out another display-related issue. His tweet explains how the display remains active for several milliseconds even after the smartphone has been locked. The display remaining active under the lock screen leads to random apps getting launched. So, users may find random apps opened up every time they unlock their smartphone.

Gadgets 360 can confirm this issue exists with our review unit as well. We can also confirm that the issue with the display remaining active exists on our Pixel 7 review unit as well. The issue seems to be triggered during the lock animation, when the screen remains active for a few milliseconds till the fade out lock screen animation is complete. It isn’t clear whether both issues will be addressed by Google in a software update, but we have reached out to Google for comment.

Google’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones went on sale in India yesterday. They are the first premium smartphones from Google to reach India after a four-year gap. The Pixel 7 is available at Rs. 59,999, while the bigger Pixel 7 Pro is available at Rs. 84,999 on Flipkart.

Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro Features to Come to Older Models via Upcoming Feature Drop: Report

With the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro now announced there are some new features that will remain exclusive to the new smartphones that are powered by the company’s new Tensor G2 processor. Shortly after the launch of the successors to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, a new report has claimed that Google’s next feature-drop will bring some of these features to older Pixel smartphones. The company regularly releases new feature drops for its Pixel-branded smartphones that add or enable new features, or improve existing functionality.

Google’s next feature-drop, according to PhoneArena is slated for December this year, and will reportedly bring some of the features we saw launched with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro models. One detail to take note of is that bigger features will only be arriving to Tensor-powered smartphones, which includes the Pixel 6a (officially launched in India), Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro models. However, there are a few others that will arrive on non-Tensor Pixel devices as well.

Clear Calling which is powered by the Tensor processor will be coming to older Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro models. The feature reduces background noise when on voice calls. Also included alongside clear calling is the new quick phrase letting users drop an incoming call by simply saying the word “silence”. Guided Frame which was also announced with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones will be coming to older Tensor-powered devices. It is an accessibility-related feature that lets those with poor eyesight snap a selfie by giving out voice commands helping them position the phone in real-time.

Real Tone, which according to Google accurately shows diverse skin tones is already available on the Pixel 6a, but improvements that have arrived for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will soon be available on older Tensor-powered Pixels as well. Spatial Audio that is arriving via an update on the Pixel Buds Pro, will also be available on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro models, as per the report.

Coming to the features that don’t rely on the Tensor processors, there’s the ‘At a Glance’ widget available on the home screen that will now show additional information along with already available information that is normally relayed via the widget. Audio Message Transcription, will also be coming to older non-Tensor smartphones including the Pixel 4a.

To recall, the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will go on sale in India next week. The phones have been launched at Rs 59,999 and 84,999 respectively and will only be available in single RAM and storage variants in India. Both smartphones run Google’s new Tensor G2 processor and come with subtle improvements over the previous Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro models which were not launched by Google in India. The new smartphones will go on sale on Flipkart on 13 October with pre-bookings already open.

Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro Advertisements Leaked, New Camera Features Revealed: All Details

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro features have been leaked in new advertisements for the phones shared by a tipster. The company first revealed its upcoming handsets back at Google I/O in May, and the hardware specifications of both smartphones have been tipped on multiple occasions. The leaked ads reveal both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will feature new camera-related software functionality, including the ability to record video while blurring subjects, like Apple’s Cinematic Mode that was introduced with the iPhone 13 series.

Tipster SnoopyTech (@snoopytech) leaked two 30-second advertisements for the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro via Twitter. The video for the Pixel 7 Pro reveals a new ‘Macro Focus’ feature that is claimed to allow users to take close-up photos of objects. The advertisement also reveals familiar features found on the Pixel 6 Pro, such as Super Res Zoom, Magic Eraser, Live Translate, and the Extreme Battery Saver.

The video for the Pixel 7 reveals that the smartphone will not feature the new Macro Focus mode from the high-end model. Meanwhile it will offer the other features mentioned above, which were also found on its predecessor, the Google Pixel 6.

Both handsets will be equipped with a new ‘Cinematic Blur’ feature for a dramatic blur effect while recording videos. While the feature was only revealed in the leaked Pixel 7 video, it can be expected to feature on the high-end model. The Cinematic Blur feature sounds similar to Apple’s Cinematic Mode, which was introduced on the iPhone 13 series, and switches focus between people or objects in a video, like the effect used in popular TV shows and movies.

The leaked videos for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro both claim the ability to use the phones for up to 72 hours, via the Extreme Battery Saver mode. The feature was also available on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, and allows only select apps (along with essential phone apps and services) to run when the mode is enabled.

There’s no word on whether Google will bring the new camera features to last year’s phones, such as the Macro Focus mode for the Pixel 6 Pro, or the Cinematic Blur feature for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, via the company’s regular Pixel Feature Drops. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are scheduled to be launched on October 6, alongside the Google Pixel Watch, which is set to make its debut as the company’s first Pixel-branded wearable.

Google Pixel 7 Pro Tensor G2 Benchmarks Hints at CPU, GPU Performance Improvements: Report

Google Pixel 7 Pro’s new benchmark, which has reportedly surfaced online, shows improvements in the Tensor G2 chip CPU and GPU performance. The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are expected to launch during Google’s hardware event scheduled for October 6. A new report has now revealed that the Tensor G2 chip is said to be using the same combination of two Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A76 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores as its predecessor. However, boosted core speeds have reportedly improved the Tensor G2 SoC, and therefore increased the Pixel 7 Pro’s multi-core performance by about 10 percent.

A recent report by 9to5Google, citing a Twitter leak by developer Kuba Wojciechowski, has hinted at the CPU and GPU improvements of the Tensor G2 chip. The information regarding the latest Tensor chip has been reportedly gleaned from a Google Pixel 7 Pro benchmark.

As mentioned earlier, the report has tipped that the Tensor G2 chip could be using the same combination of two Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A76 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores as its predecessor. However, the boosted speeds are said to improve the performance of the Tensor G2 SoC and therefore, the Pixel 7 Pro multi-core benchmarks by about 10 percent.

A report last month had indicated that Samsung is working on Google’s next generation Tensor SoC as well as its in-house Exynos 1380 SoC. The upcoming Google Tensor G2 SoC will be included in the Pixel 7 series phones. The Tensor G2 SoC reportedly has the model number S5P9865.

To recall, Google Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro are expected to go official on October 6. As we are nearing the rumoured launch date, the company is expected to announce more details about the second-generation Tensor chip.

Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro Colour Options Revealed Ahead of Launch

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro colour options have recently been revealed by the company. Both upcoming handsets will come with three colour variants each. The released images also showcase the slight differences in the rear camera bars of the two models. The Pixel 7 series will be powered by Google’s next-generation Tensor G2 SoC. Google has scheduled an event on October 6 to launch the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Watch. It will also unveil new Nest smart home devices at the event.

The Google store landing page for the Pixel 7 series now showcases the colour option for both of handsets in the lineup. The third colour option for the Pixel 7 Pro is Hazel with a gold camera strip, whereas the Pixel 7’s third colour variant is Lemongrass with a bronze bar.

Both handsets have similar designs, however, the Pixel 7 Pro seems to have a shiny polished look and the Pixel 7 appears to go for a matte finish. The larger slot features dual image sensors and the separate cutout on the Pixel 7 Pro may house a telephoto camera as well.

The landing page now also mentions that the next-generation chipset powering the Pixel 7 series is called Google Tensor G2. It is said to bring new ‘personalised features to photos, videos, security, and speech recognition.’ These smartphones will also boot Android 13 out of the box.

Google announced on Tuesday that it will launch the Pixel 7 series on October 6. It will also unveil the Google Pixel Watch, which is the first smartwatch designed and built by the company, at the same event. The watch will run on WearOS and will be compatible with Pixel and Android devices.
