Tennessee man James Walker accused of burning down Christmas tree, gifts underneath

This thieving Grinch tried to torch Christmas.

A Tennessee man – whose heart was perhaps two sizes too small – played the role of holiday villain Sunday when he burned down a family’s Christmas tree and a child’s gifts under it, authorities said.

James Walker, 25, allegedly stole items from an apartment and stuffed them in his car before he heartlessly threw a child’s blanket over the tree and lit it on fire, Dyersburg police said in a Facebook post.

Responding officers saw that a window was opened to vent the fire and the home’s smoke detector was covered up, police said.

The victim wasn’t home at the time of the fire that occurred shortly after midnight, but later told police that the suspect was an acquaintance. The victim also told officers earlier that day that she and her brother got into an altercation with Walker, according to authorities.

Walker was arrested by police officers following a short foot pursuit, authorities said. Among the charges he faces include aggravated burglary, aggravated arson, resisting arrest and public intoxication.

Dyersburg police – through its outreach program – also help the victimized household by replacing the child’s gifts that were destroyed and even contributed a few extra toys ahead of Christmas Day, the department said.

Robert De Niro’s New York City townhouse burgled while he was home

A female burglar was caught going through Robert De Niro’s Upper East Side townhouse early Monday — grabbing Christmas gifts from underneath the actor’s tree and playing with his iPad, law enforcement sources told The Post.

A “known burglar,” Shanice Aviles, 30, broke into the “Irishman” star’s home around 2:30 a.m.

Officers with the NYPD’s 19th Precinct Public Safety team had spotted Aviles trying to open doors to commercial buildings before she made her way inside De Niro’s home.

“She was stealing Christmas presents,” a police official confirmed to The Post.

Seven French bulldog pups were swiped during a pre-dawn heist in Long Island on Sunday, authorities said.

French bulldogs have gotten increasing popular in recent years, with the breed being the second most favored in the United States — and the top choice in New York City — in 2020, according to the American Kennel Club.

Earlier this month, the NYPD released footage of a brazen attempted robbery of another Frenchie. As the owner was walking into a Financial District office building with the French bulldog, a suspect is seen on video trying to scoop up the pooch. The owner was able to fend the thief off.

Anyone with information on the Suffolk robbery is asked to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
