Apple Supplier Foxconn to Start iPhone Production in Bengaluru Plant by April 2024

Apple supplier Foxconn will start manufacturing iPhones in the southern Indian state of Karnataka by April 2024, the state government said on Thursday.

The land for the factory would be handed over to Foxconn by July 1, the government said, adding that the project, valued at Rs. 130 billion, is expected to create around 50,000 jobs.

Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, has set a target of manufacturing 20 million iPhones a year at the plant in Devanahalli, on the outskirts of the state capital and tech hub Bengaluru.

Apple has been shifting production away from China after the country’s strict COVID-related restrictions disrupted the production of new iPhones and other devices in the country. The tech giant is also looking to avoid a hit to its business due to tensions between Beijing and Washington.

A spokesperson for Foxconn did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

Meanwhile, some applicants including Vedanta Foxconn JV are expected to re-apply for government incentives under the modified semiconductor scheme opening from June 1, according to sources. Under the Modified Semicon India Programme, the government has increased the financial incentive of 50 percent of the project cost for companies, consortia, joint ventures for setting up semiconductor fabs in India of any node (wafer size).

In the old scheme, the incentives varied on the basis of wafer node size.

Similarly, a fiscal incentive of 50 percent of the project cost is available for setting up of display fabs of specified technologies in India, a statement said on Wednesday.

Accenture to Acquire Bengaluru-based Industrial AI Firm Flutura

IT services and consulting firm Accenture on Tuesday said it will acquire Bengaluru-based industrial artificial intelligence company Flutura.

The deal size was not disclosed.

Flutura has approximately 110 professionals who specialize in industrial data science services for manufacturers and other asset-intensive companies.

“Flutura will strengthen Accenture’s industrial AI services to increase the performance of plants, refineries, and supply chains while also enabling clients to accomplish their net-zero goals faster,” Accenture said in a statement.

Ireland-based Accenture plans to bring Flutura’s capabilities to clients in the energy, chemicals, metals, mining, and pharmaceutical industries.

“Flutura democratizes AI for engineers. This acquisition will power industrial AI-led transformation for our clients globally and particularly in Australia, South-East Asia, Japan, Africa, India, Latin America and the Middle East,” Senthil Ramani, senior managing director and Accenture Applied Intelligence lead for Growth Markets, said.

Last year, Accenture acquired data science company ALBERT in Japan.

Other recent AI acquisitions of Accenture include Analytics8 in Australia, Sentelis in France, Bridgei2i and Byte Prophecy in India, Pragsis Bidoop in Spain Mudano in the UK and Clarity Insights in the US.

In November last year, Accenture partnered up with NTT Docomo, Japan’s largest telecom company, to fund the country’s Web3 exploration with a $4 billion (roughly Rs. 39,113 crore) investment. As part of the collaborative effort, both NTT Docomo and Accenture would be providing training courses for engineers as well as business developers looking to enter the sector.

Web3 has the potential to form a new digital economy with a greater social impact than conventional economies, providing clearly defined benefits and secure environments for success,” said a press statement from both the companies.

Swiggy Agent in Bengaluru Uses Dunzo to Deliver Order Assigned to Him, Twitter Reacts

Bengaluru’s traffic has often messed up our minds. The traffic jam is a great trouble for daily commuters. Needless to say that delivery agents in Bengaluru also have to face this problem every day for hours at a stretch to provide orders to customers’ doorsteps. Given the daily hustle of hour-long traffic and scorching hear, a Swiggy delivery agent from the Karnataka capital decided to reassign his order to someone else. Interestingly, instead of cancelling the order or giving it to someone from the same delivery company, this agent used the delivery app Dunzo. Unbelievable, right?

A Twitter user has disclosed the entire incident by sharing a chat screenshot where his friend has opened up on the details with him. According to the chat, the delivery guy was too “lazy” to pick up the order. The chat read, “I ordered a coffee on Swiggy from CCD. The delivery guy picked it up but was too lazy to come to deliver it here.” Then, he wrote in all capitals, “So he Dunzo-ed it to me.” To add to the surprise, the Swiggy agent called up the customer to inform him about the delivery, and also requested him for a 5-star rating.

The post has resulted in several hilarious comments on the social media platform.

For many users, it was just another incident from the Silicon Valley.

Referring to the rising popularity of Dunzo, a person questioned if the delivery app transports humans from their homes to office, as Ola and Uber are charging hefty price.

Another curious mind also thought about the possibility of Dunzo delivery agent sub-delegating it to another service.

One of the users claimed that Zomato and Swiggy have been using Dunzo for quite some time and that has caused a lot of problems. While Swiggy may look into the matter soon, the incident has left many with a good laugh.
