Nick Nurse encourages Tyrese Maxey to take 20 shots per game

In a recent preseason matchup, the Philadelphia 76ers faced a 112-101 defeat against the Boston Celtics. Tyrese Maxey, the Sixers’ promising point guard, contributed with 17 points (7/17 field goals), 3 rebounds, and 3 assists while playing for 28 minutes.

However, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse expressed the need for Maxey to embrace a more aggressive approach.

“I must have spent three timeouts in the first half saying, ‘Listen, Tyrese, Porzingis is on you. You gotta go – like, there’s no more running stuff, and we gotta clear the space, and you gotta rock and roll on him or you gotta rock on that,’” he said, per Sam DiGiovanni.

Nurse’s aim is for Maxey to attempt 20 shots per game, a directive that the young guard welcomes.

Maxey stated, “When a coach has confidence in you and then your teammates have confidence in you to kind of be yourself, then it’s a good feeling. It takes the pressure off of you.”
