NFL quarterback rankings , Week 7: Josh Allen is undeniable

Last Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen stepped to the fore and outplayed Patrick Mahomes for a key victory.

Our 2022 FanSided NFL quarterback rankings go live each Wednesday morning throughout the regular season, and we use a sliding scale incorporating current and past performances, with the former meaning more as the year goes on.

NFL quarterback rankings

32

P.J. Walker

Last Week: NA Carolina Panthers

2022 stats: 120 yards | 62.8 comp % | 0 TD | 0 INT | 5.5 YPA | 6.2 QBR

Walker is essentially a third-string quarterback for the moribund Panthers, and he played like it against the Rams.

31

Skylar Thompson

Last Week: NA Miami Dolphins

2022 stats: 255 yards | 56.5 comp % | 0 TD | 1 INT | 5.5 YPA | 37.7 QBR

Thompson gave way to Teddy Bridgewater last week due to injury, and it’ll now be Tua Tagovailoa starting against the Steelers on Monday night.

30

Justin Fields

Last Week: 31 Chicago Bears

2022 stats: 869 yards | 54.8 comp % | 4 TD | 5 INT | 7.6 YPA | 34.3 QBR

The Bears are giving Fields much of a chance with this offense, but he’s done virtually nothing with any opportunity he’s been given.

29

Kenny Pickett

Last Week: 30 Pittsburgh Steelers

2022 stats: 514 yards | 66.3 comp % | 1 TD | 4 INT | 6.2 YPA | 38.1 QBR

We’ll see if Pickett can play on Sunday after sustaining a concussion against Tampa Bay. Before being hurt, Pickett largely threw short in Matt Canada’s offense, asked to do very little.

28

Andy Dalton

Last Week: 24 New Orleans Saints

2022 stats: 585 yards | 63.1 comp % | 3 TD | 1 INT | 7.0 YPA | 46.9 QBR

Dalton got nothing accomplished against his old team in Week 6. Underneath throws, made a few poor decisions and shriveled on the potential game-winning drive.

27

Davis Mills

Last Week: 25 Houston Texans

2022 stats: 1,048 yards | 62.7 comp % | 5 TD | 4 INT | 6.3 YPA | 32.3 QBR

Mills and the Texans are coming out of their bye hoping for a fresh start. It’s been a struggle thus far for the second-year man, with too many bad misses.

26

Carson Wentz

Last Week: 22 Washington Commanders

2022 stats: 1,489 yards | 62.1 comp % | 10 TD | 6 INT | 6.4 YPA | 34.1 QBR

Wentz is now week-to-week after needing surgery to repair a broken finger. However, he’s been really rough even when healthy. Too many poor decisions, as usual.

25

Bailey Zappe

Last Week: 32 New England Patriots

2022 stats: 596 yards | 72.9 comp % | 4 TD | 1 INT | 8.5 YPA | 34.7 QBR

Zappe is making things really interesting in New England. Is he going to keep the job over Mac Jones? He made some really nice plays in Sunday’s win over the Browns.

24

Zach Wilson

Last Week: 28 New York Jets

2022 stats: 572 yards | 56.0 comp % | 1 TD | 2 INT | 7.6 YPA | 47.7 QBR

The Jets are 4-2, but they need more from Wilson. Somehow, New York scored 27 points despite Wilson throwing for 110 yards against the Packers. If he improves, look out.

23

Jacoby Brissett

Last Week: 27 Cleveland Browns

2022 stats: 1,326 yards | 60.2 comp % | 6 TD | 5 INT | 6.2 YPA | 58.2 QBR

Brissett is a really nice backup quarterback who can’t carry an offense. No shame there. The problem for Cleveland is if it gets behind by two scores, forget it.

22

Russell Wilson

Last Week: 13 Denver Broncos

2022 stats: 1,442 yards | 58.6 comp % | 5 TD | 3 INT | 7.3 YPA | 35.8 QBR

Jokes aside, Wilson looks like he might be the worst contract in NFL history. This is impossibly bad.

21

Daniel Jones

Last Week: 26 New York Giants

2022 stats: 1,021 yards | 67.3 comp % | 5 TD | 2 INT | 6.4 YPA | 54.7 QBR

Jones isn’t being asked to do much, but he’s not turning the ball over, and he’s making a few important throws per game. The Giants look like a playoff team.

20

Cooper Rush

Last Week: 20 Dallas Cowboys

2022 stats: 1,020 yards | 57.7 comp % | 5 TD | 3 INT | 6.5 YPA | 61.3 QBR

Rush will return to the bench with Dak Prescott healthy, but he did his job. Outside of the loss at Philadelphia, no interceptions in five starts and a 4-1 overall record. Well done.

19

Marcus Mariota

Last Week: 21 Atlanta Falcons

2022 stats: 1,055 yards | 61.3 comp % | 6 TD | 4 INT | 7.7 YPA | 59.2 QBR

Mariota was almost perfect against the 49ers, only suffering one incompletion. He’s been a nice story down in Atlanta with old friend Arthur Smith.

18

Jimmy Garoppolo

Last Week: 18 San Francisco 49ers

2022 stats: 1,153 yards | 63.5 comp % | 7 TD | 3 INT | 7.8 YPA | 41.1 QBR

Garoppolo needs to step up for the Niners considering all their defensive injuries. Against the Chiefs this weekend, he might need to throw it around some for a victory.

17

Matt Ryan

Last Week: 19 Indianapolis Colts

2022 stats: 1,765 yards | 67.2 comp % | 8 TD | 7 INT | 7.0 YPA | 45.7 QBR

The Colts finally scored some points last weekend, and Ryan, despite all his issues, has thrown for the second-most yardage in football. He’s still been pedestrian, but the volume is there.

16

Kyler Murray

Last Week: 15 Arizona Cardinals

2022 stats: 1,463 yards | 65.1 comp % | 6 TD | 4 INT | 5.8 YPA | 46.6 QBR

The Cardinals should have done their homework before extending Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray.

15

Ryan Tannehill

Last Week: 16 Tennessee Titans

2022 stats: 965 yards | 65.1 comp % | 6 TD | 3 INT | 7.7 YPA | 40.6 QBR

Tannehill needs to be a caretaker in Tennessee who can occasionally make a big throw on third down and in the red zone. That’s the formula to win the AFC South.

14

Jared Goff

Last Week: 12 Detroit Lions

2022 stats: 1,355 yards | 59.7 comp % | 11 TD | 4 INT | 7.3 YPA | 54.7 QBR

Goff and the Lions are 1-4 coming out of their bye, now taking on the Cowboys in Dallas. My advice? Jared, get the ball out quick this Sunday.

13

Trevor Lawrence

Last Week: 11 Jacksonville Jaguars

2022 stats: 1,397 yards | 65.5 comp % | 9 TD | 4 INT | 6.9 YPA | 55.0 QBR

Lawrence was excellent against the Colts, but it wasn’t enough due to a lackluster defensive showing. The second-year quarterback has grown immensely this year, but there’s much work ahead.

12

Matthew Stafford

Last Week: 10 Los Angeles Rams

2022 stats: 1,576 yards | 71.1 comp % | 6 TD | 8 INT | 7.0 YPA | 46.4 QBR

Stafford threw a pick-six against Carolina on what looked like miscommunication. Much more concerning is left tackle Joe Noteboom tearing his Achilles. Just a brutal year in L.A.

11

Kirk Cousins

Last Week: 14 Minnesota Vikings

2022 stats: 1,502 yards | 66.2 comp % | 9 TD | 5 INT | 6.6 YPA | 51.1 QBR

Cousins was uneven against the Dolphins, but the defense bailed Minnesota out. The Vikings are 5-1, but Cousins needs to play better if Minnesota is going to be a real threat in the NFC.

10

Aaron Rodgers

Last Week: 6 Green Bay Packers

2022 stats: 1,403 yards | 67.0 comp % | 9 TD | 3 INT | 6.7 YPA | 38.4 QBR

Nobody can honestly feel the loss of Davante Adams is the only problem in Green Bay. Rodgers is playing poorly, the line isn’t holding up, and run game is out of sorts. Still, this starts with Rodgers, who is the highest-paid player in NFL history. Step up.

9

Derek Carr

Last Week: 9 Las Vegas Raiders

2022 stats: 1,279 yards | 61.4 comp % | 8 TD | 4 INT | 7.0 YPA | 57.2 QBR

Carr has done a nice job overall this year, but it hasn’t been enough in the red zone or key spots late. Las Vegas needs him to be better situationally out of the bye week.

8

Tom Brady

Last Week: 7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2022 stats: 1,652 yards | 67.2 comp % | 8 TD | 1 INT | 6.7 YPA | 52.0 QBR

Brady needs to be better. He also needs his offensive coordinator to allow him to throw on first down. The Bucs are a mess right now.

7

Geno Smith

Last Week: 17 Seattle Seahawks

2022 stats: 1,502 yards | 73.4 comp % | 9 TD | 2 INT | 8.0 YPA | 68.3 QBR

If someone had told you Geno Smith would be playing better football — inarguably — than Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, which clinic would you have referred them to?

6

Lamar Jackson

Last Week: 4 Baltimore Ravens

2022 stats: 1,277 yards | 61.9 comp % | 13 TD | 6 INT | 7.1 YPA | 64.1 QBR

Jackson needs to be better in the second half. The Ravens are blowing double-digit leads constantly in the final 30 minutes, and that’s both on the defense, and the offense.

5

Joe Burrow

Last Week: 8 Cincinnati Bengals

2022 stats: 1,616 yards | 66.7 comp % | 12 TD | 5 INT | 7.1 YPA | 51.8 QBR

Since throwing four interceptions in the first week against Pittsburgh, Burrow has been fantastic. The big key now is consistently defending two-high coverages and getting explosive plays.

4

Jalen Hurts

Last Week: 3 Philadelphia Eagles

2022 stats: 1,514 yards | 66.8 comp % | 6 TD | 2 INT | 8.2 YPA | 59.6 QBR

Hurts’ passing numbers have come down a bit the past two weeks, but he’s still operating at a very high level. His YPA and rushing ability are propelling the Eagles’ offense.

3

Justin Herbert

Last Week: 5 Los Angeles Chargers

2022 stats: 1,716 yards | 66.1 comp % | 10 TD | 3 INT | 6.7 YPA | 59.5 QBR

Herbert had a rough game against Denver, but he’s holding onto the top spot behind Allen and Mahomes. If the Chargers ever decide to use Herbert’s big arm, please let us know.

2

Patrick Mahomes

Last Week: 1 Kansas City Chiefs

2022 stats: 1,736 yards | 65.9 comp % | 17 TD | 4 INT | 7.6 YPA | 74.2 QBR

Mahomes drops behind Allen, who right now, is the league MVP. Still, despite two interceptions this week, Mahomes is right there in the mix. He’s been awfully good all year.

1

Josh Allen

Last Week: 2 Buffalo Bills

2022 stats: 1,980 yards | 66.9 comp % | 17 TD | 4 INT | 8.3 YPA | 75.4 QBR

Nobody has created more problems for defenses than Allen. He can throw into any window, hurdle any tackler, and beat any coverage. Phenomenal player.
