New York Giants TE Darren Waller enjoying injury-free training camp

New York Giants tight end Darren Waller is as talented as they come but his career has been bogged down due to injuries. It’s been the only knock against him over the past eight years and it’s a label he looks to shed in East Rutherford.

To date, he’s done a good job of that. Waller has remained healthy all offseason and through the first two-plus weeks of training camp, which is a new milestone for him.

“I’ve felt great this training camp,” Waller told reporters on Tuesday. “I was telling some of the coaches I don’t think I’ve gone through a full training camp just being out there with the guys without one, like, a turf toe, or diving for a catch and spraining my AC joint.

“Just being here for a full training camp throughout the whole process has been fun and it feels good to feel fresh and just get out and just be able to run every day and do everything you’re asked to do.”

Waller hasn’t gone without a few bumps and bruises, but that’s just “football stuff,” he says. The larger issues are the ones he’s been able to avoid.

“I popped (my finger) out of place a little bit, popped it back in. You know, football stuff,” Waller said of an issue he dealt with last week.

The presence of Waller has helped transform the Giants’ offense and he’s expected to play a significant role in 2023 provided his recent string of health continues.
