New York Giants have inquired about trading up in 2024 NFL draft

The New York Giants hold the sixth overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft. They are said to be interested in selecting a quarterback with that pick.

But the top three prospects will likely be gone by the time they are on the clock. That means they would have to trade up a minimum of three spots to snag one of the big three: USC’s Caleb Williams, Drake Maye of North Carolina, and LSU’s Jayden Daniels.

Veteran NFL reporter Albert Breer recently reported that Big Blue is poking around to see what it will take to move up in Round 1 of the draft.

The first three picks are held by Chicago, Washington, and New England, respectively, and all three are almost certain to stay the course and select a quarterback.

It would take a monumental package to convince one of those teams to swap places with the Giants, who don’t seem to have the pieces any longer after trading one of their second-round picks to Carolina in the Brian Burns deal.

The Bears are believed to be a lock to take Williams first overall while the Commanders are rumored to like Maye. That leaves New England as a match for Daniels but they’ve made no overtures in his direction as of yet.

The Patriots recently traded away Mac Jones to the Jaguars and added back Jacoby Brissett to their quarterback room, but no one sees that as more than just a stabilizing move to their quarterback room.

The Giants could ring the Pats to take their temperature but they might be looking to trade up rather than back.

Don’t expect the Commanders to do business with the Giants and jumping all the way up to No. 1 would be way too costly to the point where it just simply wouldn’t be worth it.

The Giants’ best bet might be to stay at No. 6 and let the draft fall to them. Who knows? Maye or Daniels could fall. If not, they’ll have a ton of talent to choose from, including Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy — a player who has opened some eyes this winter.
