Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, recently opened up about his team’s persistent efforts to acquire Tyrese Haliburton, shedding light on a compelling behind-the-scenes NBA story.

Despite their best efforts, the Mavericks were unable to secure the promising point guard. Intriguingly, their former head coach, Rick Carlisle, orchestrated Haliburton’s move to the Indiana Pacers.

Cuban recalled the relentless pursuit on the Pat Bev Pod, stating, “Tyrese Haliburton. We did everything we could to trade up and get him.”

A twist of fate occurred when Carlisle, who had been at the helm of the Mavericks, joined the Pacers. “Did everything we could. Now, obviously, Rick [Carlisle] was our coach at the time. Rick goes to Indiana, what’s the first deal he does?” Cuban couldn’t help but chuckle as he recounted the ironic outcome.

“He’s a great player,” Patrick Beverley said about Haliburton. “Him and Luka [Doncic] together. Oh my God. That would have been different… He plays the game the right way. It’s funky looking, but f*cking so what?”

Haliburton has since flourished in the NBA, earning an All-Star nod while donning the Pacers’ jersey. He is currently playing for Team USA at FIBA World Cup.
