Man United future ‘to be settled after Ten Hag decision’

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is set to leave Old Trafford if a Saudi Pro League club makes a “good proposal” for the 32-year-old this summer, according to a report.

Brazil international Casemiro’s future will be settled after United end the uncertainty over manager Erik ten Hag’s future, Fabrizio Romano has said.

The 20-time champions had been expected to sack their Dutch head coach after the FA Cup final on May 25 and will make a final decision “soon”, the transfer expert added.

Saudi top-flight clubs Al Ahli and Al Qasidiya are keenest on Casemiro, Goal reported earlier this week, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr also said to be interested.

The outlet claimed there is a discrepancy over United’s valuation of the player, who is under contract until 2026, at £30 million.

Casemiro: Madrid link key for Al Nassr?

Marca reported on Sunday that Ronaldo has directly approached Casemiro over a potential move which would reunite the pair for a third spell following their time together at United and Real Madrid.

Casemiro is the third-most expensive arrival of Ten Hag’s patchy reign, becoming one of the former Ajax coach’s first signings when he joined from Madrid for £70m in August 2022.

He has made 83 appearances in two seasons, missing 16 games through injury in 2023/24 and finding himself left out of United’s squad for their FA Cup final win over Manchester City on May 25.

Ten Hag was widely reported to have been on the brink of the sack before the game and his departure would be unsurprising under the new ownership of United’s football operations by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group.

In an injury-strewn season for United, Casemiro was ever-present during the final eight matches of their Premier League campaign, enduring criticism for three appearances in defence.

United came back to win at home to Sheffield United, drew when Burnley visited and suffered a 4-0 thrashing at Crystal Palace in those games.

Their surprise victory over City secured Uefa Europa League qualification, having finished eighth in the Premier League and exited the 2023/24 Champions League in the group stage.
