Euro 2024: Scotland v Switzerland

Match Preview

Scotland will hope to get their Euro 2024 campaign up and running – and banish the memory of their opening-night horror show against Germany – when they face Switzerland in Cologne.

Steve Clarke’s men were blown away by the tournament hosts with Antonio Rudiger’s late own goal little consolation for the Tartan Army.

Scotland will be without centre half Ryan Porteous, who is suspended after being shown a red card for an awful challenge on Ilkay Gundogan that led to the penalty from which Kai Havertz scored.

Clarke is a fan of the Swiss, who beat Hungary 3-1 in their opener.

He said: “People always look at the Swiss and think they are a smaller footballing nation, but they are always there at the major tournaments.

“So when it comes to tournament football, a little like Germany, they were on it – the same with the Swiss team.

“They know how to survive in tournaments and they are a nation we have to learn from.”

Swiss boss Murat Yakin possesses a side full of tournament experience and with key striker Breel Embolo also coming back to full fitness following a goalscoring cameo against the Hungarians.
