The extension talks between D’Angelo Russell and Minnesota Timberwolves currently stands in an up-down progress.

According to The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynsk on the Please Don’t Aggregate Podcast with Jake Fischer (h/t HoopsHype), both Russell and the Timberwolves can’t reach further agreement, as the two sides aren’t able to land inclination on their terms since offseason.

“The Timberwolves and D’Angelo Russell’s representatives have sort of off and on had discussions about contract extensions from starting in the summer, you know, up through the fall, and they never could kind of align on anything that both sides were comfortable with.”

Russell emerged as a likely trade candidate for the T-Wolves since last year, given the fact that he has an expiring four-year, $117 million contract that was signed last 2019.

Combined also by his streaky, inconsistent play, the former star point man became such prone of trade talks. He is currently trying to elevate his game with a new-look Minnesota team this season with newcomer Rudy Gobert, averaging just 17.0 points, 6.4 assists, 3.2 boards while shooting 45.8 percent from the field.

Russell’s name will certainly continue to be thrown around the league rumors before the trade deadline, most especially if the Timberwolves need to make necessary moves in order to evade a disappointing 2022-2023 season.
