GTA 6 Trailer Finally Released on X/Twitter After CEO Begged Rockstar to Post

Just about a day after Rockstar Games finally released its wildly anticipated first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI on YouTube, the publisher has also uploaded it to X/Twitter following a fair bit of drama.

Rockstar, it should be noted, has had a hell of a 24 hours, initially planning to unveil the first GTA 6 trailer early on Tuesday. But, it leaked Monday afternoon (something the devs clearly did not appreciate), spurring the team to release the trailer on YouTube shortly after.

Despite the context of all that hubbub, X/Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino still chimed in to publicly ask Rockstar to post the trailer to that social media platform. “@RockstarGames — gaming is one of our most popular topics,” she wrote. “Drop that trailer here — give the people on @X what they want!!”

Her plea accompanied a post that compared the views of the trailer on YouTube to the views of Rockstar’s post on X/Twitter announcing that the trailer was up. That information, as a community note pointed out, is misleading, though, as views on X/Twitter are counted by scrolls rather than actual engagement, as opposed to YouTube views. In short, it’s the difference between scrolling past a post on your timeline versus taking the time to watch the trailer in full.

What’s more, many X/Twitter users reported not being able to see Rockstar’s post of the trailer when viewing a reply to it. That made for some speculation that X/Twitter was intentionally limiting the trailer’s reach.

And while it might not be related to all of this, but feels relevant to note, X/Twitter owner Elon Musk spurred quite a few jokes after saying he wasn’t a fan of GTA because he “didn’t like doing crime”: “GTA5 required shooting police officers in the opening scene,” he added. “Just couldn’t do it.”

It’s unclear if Rockstar had always planned on posting the trailer to X/Twitter – especially considering that various companies have been suspending ad placement and easing back on the platform altogether after Elon Musk backed an antisemitic conspiracy theory – or if their plans were thrown off by the leak. Regardless, Rockstar unveiled the trailer on X/Twitter with a casual, “Hello @X, watch Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1.”

It’s only the latest bit of news in the whirlwind that has been the internet since GTA 6’s trailer dropped, which swiftly surpassed trailer views for the reveal trailers of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Cyberpunk 2077 combined. It’s currently sitting at 88 million views on YouTube, although I’m pretty sure that number will be outdated quickly enough.

In the meantime, fans have been ferociously hunting for any theories they can find, obsessing over protagonist Lucia, and finding a number of references to real-life events. And if you haven’t already watched it enough times, you can watch it again below.

Fortnite Players Are Peeved About Solid Snake’s Flat Ass

Solid Snake, the recurring protagonist of the Metal Gear franchise, is making his Fortnite debut as a bonus skin offered in the Chapter 5, Season 1 Battle Pass. But rather than being greeted with excitement, Kotaku reports the hunky assassin is a sore subject among players who noticed the absence of his once-thick booty.

Staring at a fictional character’s rear-end sounds creepy. Actually, it is creepy. But to be fair, Snake’s skin-tight body suit makes it fairly easy to spot the difference in his character design across games. Plus, we’re not going to deny that he’s ruggedly handsome — ass and all.

One fan took to X to express disapproval of the character’s new look: “this is awful where is his ass? solid snake does not breathe thru his nose actually his lungs are located in his ass and if he has a small butt it means his lungs are being crushed and he is being asphyxiated and slowly dying. this is snake abuse.”

“screaming [sic] and yelling and throwing up because they gave fortnite solid snake a flat ass which is deeply antithetical to everything hideo kojima stands for,” a fellow player wrote. “disgusting. [sic]”

In a cruel twist of fate, Epic Games also released a skin for Family Guy’s Peter Griffin in the newest Battle Pass — and he’s absolutely ripped. It’s almost like Snake got a reverse “BBL” (Brazilian Butt Lift), where all of the fat in his derrière was transferred to Peter’s hulking biceps.

“Buff Peter Griffin, Solid Snake with no ass, Fortnite should NOT be allowed to cook right now,” a dissatisfied player posted on X.

Other Fortnite players have theorized similarly crude ways in which Solid Snake’s ass was removed. One X user posted a cartoon drawing that depicts the character getting his butt cheeks sanded off while strapped to a table.

But this isn’t the first time Snake’s volumptuous rump has been nerfed by game devs. When Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released in 2018, players were equally quick to point out the character’s newfound pancake-ass.

“They already nerfed snake,” a user posted on Twitter at the time, along with an up-close comparison of Snake’s backside between the Wii and the Nintendo Switch versions of the popular fighting game.

More recently, another user posted an updated visual of the character’s gradual ass-flattening process with a caption that reads: “we have to get solid snake out of the multiverse. if he shows up in another game his ass is gonna be fully concave. every time he meets ryu from street fighter he has less cake.”

Several other in-game skins have also had their asses flattened by Epic Games, including Omni-Man, Captain America and Doomguy, according to Kotaku. It seems like they just can’t handle the booty.

According to GameRant, the sans-booty version of Solid Snake can be unlocked by players who have completed the relevant challenges on Jan. 23 — 51 days from the start of this season’s Battle Pass.

Skyrim: Special Edition Gets Mod and Paid Content Revamp

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has received a mod revamp on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X and S, and PC, as Bethesda doubles down on paid mod content in the Special Edition.

A blog post from the developer revealed a new feature called Bethesda Game Studios Creations, which will replace Creation Club in Skyrim: Special Edition. Players with mods installed already shouldn’t notice too much of a difference, though the upgrade encourages users to create more paid content.

Mod creators can release mods as before, or apply to the Bethesda Game Studios Verified Creator Program to set prices for their creations.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Official Anniversary Edition and Upgrade Overview Video Breakdown

IGN’s Twenty Questions – Guess the game!

“In continuing to evolve with the Skyrim community, we are excited to announce Bethesda Game Studios Creations, an updated way for players to discover, download and play community-made content,” Bethesda said. “An evolution of the Creation Club programme, Creations enhances how Creators develop and showcase their works to Skyrim fans on a variety of platforms.”

As for what’s actually changing, Skyrim: Special Edition is now updated with the Creations menu, the Creation Kit tool has been updated to include a Resource Pack of art and scripting assets, the Creations website has been overhauled, and Creation Club Credits have been rebranded as Creation Credits (going into place December 12).

With The Elder Scrolls 6 still five years away at least, fans have had to find their own ways, like mods, to keep the ageing Skyrim entertaining. One player recently accrued a 267,000 gold bounty murdering 5,000 NPCs in a quest to kill “everything that was killable”, while another fan recreated the game in Age of Empires 2. A wave of players even booted up their old consoles recently to retire their original Skyrim characters.

In our 9/10 review of the beloved RPG, IGN said: “Skyrim is a rare kind of intensely personal, deeply rewarding experience, and one of the best role-playing games yet produced.”

GTA 6 Trailer Already Has More Views Than Cyberpunk, Red Dead 2, and Zelda: TOTK Reveals Combined

Grand Theft Auto is huge, that’s no surprise, but Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 trailer has surpassed 69.2 million views within 15 hours, meaning it’s already been watched more than the reveal trailers for Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom combined.

The highly anticipated debut trailer, which was due to premiere today, December 5, but was posted on December 4 following a leak, is currently racking up tens of thousands of views per minute. In fact, we’ve had to edit the introduction of this article three times already as the million mark keeps ticking over.

And while 69.2 million is a lot of views under any metric, it’s even more impressive, and almost unbelievable, when compared to some of the biggest video game releases of the last five years. Cyberpunk 2077, for example, the futuristic open world role-playing game from beloved developer CD Projekt Red, has 28.6 million views on its initial teaser trailer.

IGN’s Twenty Questions – Guess the game!

The debut of Rockstar’s previous hit, Red Dead Redemption 2, has 23.1 million views, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to Breath of the Wild, considered one of the best video games of all time, has 16.1 million views on its first look trailer.

All three therefore have a total viewership number of 67.8 million views, and that’s lifetime numbers. Grand Theft Auto 6 has achieved all that and more in less than a day since its trailer debuted.

The GTA 6 trailer was awaited with bated breath from the gaming industry, and seemingly the entire world, after Rockstar teased a return to Vice City, its own take on Miami. The map will expand beyond city limits though, seeping into a fictional Florida called Leonida which is packed full of real world references (and parodies).

While it was revealed alongside a 2025 release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, PC players were left frustrated, though not necessarily surprised, that their platform was left off the list.

They weren’t the ones a little peeved though, as several developers from Rockstar itself took to social media to express their frustration at the trailer leaking early. In fact, the entire industry shared their disappointment that the exciting moment was dampened. Several streamers were also hit with content strikes and takedowns in the wake of the leak.

And while most of those 69.2 million viewers likely cannot wait for Grand Theft Auto 6, some will seemingly never be satisfied. Why? GTA 7 was trending online as soon as the trailer dropped.

Dead Space Has Dropped to Just $8 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Members

The 2023 Dead Space remake is widely regarded as one of the top games of the year, and it’s now available for just $7.99 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members (and £7.99 for those in the UK as well). That’s a colossal discount for, in my opinion, one of the best games ever made. So, just to recap and ensure you’re following; this is the full Dead Space Digital Deluxe Edition, not just an upgrade, but the full game + digital extras as well, for $7.99. That’s 90% off the MSRP and $72 in overall savings. Wow.

Xbox

Dead Space – Digital Deluxe Edition

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Members Only.

You likely already know that Dead Space is available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate via EA Play, but in all honestly, it’s hard to deny how good of a deal this is. This is especially true as it’s a game to add to your digital library without the presumed worry of losing access if you ever need to drop your Game Pass subscription even down a single tier.

This also begs into question: could this possibly be a pricing oversight? Was the intention to offer a discount on the Digital Deluxe upgrade instead? The sheer magnitude of this offer, undeniably enticing and seemingly too good to be true, does naturally prompt some speculation about potential errors. Plus, strangely, the Digital Deluxe upgrade on Xbox is currently priced at $8.99, while the base game carries a tag of $62.99. But, at least for the time being, the $7.99 deal remains accessible for those with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

IGN gave Dead Space a 9/10 in its review earlier this year, with writer Tristan Ogilvie stating: “It’s clear that this superb Dead Space remake has been a labor of love for the team at Motive Studios, who’ve very carefully balanced innovation and renovation with preservation, and to their credit the end result is undoubtedly the definitive way to experience – or re-experience – one of the best survival horror shooters that Capcom never made.”

We’ve also covered discounts just like this Dead Space offer within our breakdown of the best Xbox deals post-Black Friday and even included deals in our top Xbox holiday gift ideas. Otherwise, ensure you’re following @IGNDeals on Twitter/X for more immediate deal updates this holiday season.

Elden Ring Drops to Just £30 on PS5 and Xbox After the Black Friday Sales

Anticipation continues to build as gamers are eagerly awaiting updates on the forthcoming Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. In the meantime, the base game is currently available at a discounted price in the UK. Select retailers are offering the game for a reduced rate of at least £29.99, a noteworthy markdown from the £49.99 RRP. Given the expansive nature of the game, this discount should be deemed substantial, particularly when contrasted with the potential £69.99 price tag that other publishers might command for a similar gaming experience in 2023.

Shadow of the Erdtree was announced in March as a major expansion for Elden Ring, but FromSoftware has yet to indicate a release date despite the game approaching its second anniversary. The game has had just one other piece of DLC content added to the game since launch, which came in the form of the Colosseum multiplayer update. It hasn’t been confirmed how much content Shadow of the Erdtree is set to include, but it will be the first single-player expansion available for Elden Ring.

The base version of Elden Ring returned a 10/10 in IGN’s review. “Elden Ring is a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path,” we said.

GTA 6 Reaction Streams Hit With Strikes and Takedowns in Wake of Trailer Leak

The industry scrambled to react Monday in the wake of the surprise release of the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer. Originally slated to arrive tomorrow at 9am ET / 6am PT, Rockstar’s big reveal had been one of gaming’s most anticipated moments of the year. Streamers, media outlets, and other content producers moved quickly to get their streams online, only to be hit with strikes and takedowns.

IGN’s Twenty Questions – Guess the game!

Several major content producers, including Kinda Funny and IGN, found their trailers and streams unexpectedly blocked in the immediate aftermath of the release. Tiktok streams were automatically muted, possibly because of the trailer’s use of a copyrighted song in Tom Petty’s “Love is a Long Road.”

Some fans blamed Rockstar, but others pointed out that it seemed to be due to the algorithm on platforms like YouTube, which typically moderate licensed songs. Most reaction streams were able to be restored after a short interruption.

The strikes were one more symptom of the general chaos surrounding the sudden release of the GTA VI trailer, which followed a leak that appeared on X / Twitter on Monday afternoon. Shortly after the leak, Rockstar opted to push the trailer live, forcing media outlets and content creators alike to move sooner than expected.

As expected, the GTA VI trailer confirmed that the series will be return to Vice City, and that it will feature the franchise’s first female protagonist in Lucia. It is currently slated for release in 2025, though PC was not among the listed platforms.

IGN’s own coverage in the wake of the GTA VI trailer’s release is ongoing. Keep an eye on all of our channels as we continue to release trailer reax, breakdowns, and much more.

GTA 6’s Announced Platforms for 2025 Release Date Don’t Include PC

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently planned for release in 2025 on Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5. But for now, there’s absolutely no word on a PC release.

In a press release sent around today, Rockstar PR confirmed the game was “coming to PlayStation® 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems in 2025,” but included no mention of PC. IGN has reached out to Rockstar for comment.

IGN’s Twenty Questions – Guess the game!

The question of whether or not GTA 6 would make it to PC at launch has been in discussion for a long time now. Fans of Rockstar games have noted the studio’s historical reluctance to release other past games on PC day and date with console, as well as its fraught relationship with the modding community over the years. Still, some thought that a game as big as GTA 6 could be a turning point for the studio’s PC gaming attitudes, only to have those hopes dashed today with the news.

That said, none of this means that GTA 6 will never make it to PC, since big Rockstar titles tend to get over there eventually. But to the question of how long PC gamers will have to wait for what could end up being one of the biggest games of the current decade, Rockstar is keeping the answers quiet for now.

The very first trailer for GTA 6 just dropped today, despite having originally been planned for tomorrow morning. Its official unveiling took place after the trailer unexpectedly leaked on social media, with Rockstar acknowledging the leak and posting the official version not long after. We’ve already catalogued a number of reactions to the trailer from across the games industry, and more keep pouring in.

Rockstar Devs and the Rest of the Games Industry React to GTA 6’s Shocking Trailer Leak and Release

It’s been a wild afternoon, with the internet’s eager wait for the very first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer drop tomorrow morning cut short by a leaker posting the trailer to Twitter. Rockstar quickly responded by posting the 4K version of the trailer on its own channels, so it’s official: we have our first look at GTA 6. Now as members of the industry and community wrap their minds around the brief trailer, everyone has thoughts about what they just saw, what it means for the long-awaited game, and how the reveal went down in the first place.

IGN’s Twenty Questions – Guess the game!

First and foremost, let’s hear from developers at Rockstar, who were understandably frustrated by the leak today. Still, several expressed a mixture of relief and delight that the trailer was out in the world, even if it hadn’t gotten there the way they’d planned:

As for everyone else, one of the first major voices to react was popular streamer and political commenter Hasan Piker, though he was far from the only person to respond to the trailer with a witty wisecrack:

Even the wrestling community is getting in on it:

Some people just expressed excitement generally:

A few folks, including Firewalk Studios director of comms Scott Lowe and Annapurna Interative marketing director Jeff Legaspi, leaned into the humor of the Florida setting paired with in-game TikTok shenanigans:

Not to get too into the Florida weeds, but narrative designer Anna Webster posted a superb callout to my new favorite character in the whole trailer:

Plenty of people commented on the fact that the trailer leaked and effectively forced Rockstar Games to release their official version hours early. New Blood Interactive head Dave Oshry specifically participated in what seems to be a common discussion on social media right now: that the leaker is likely to be in one big mess of (legal) trouble when Rockstar and publisher Take-Two catch them.

A number of developers and industry figures took a moment to express sympathy for Rockstar, which had presumably rallied all its resources for the trailer to go live tomorrow and instead had to scramble to respond to the leak today. Xbox senior social media manager Josh Stein even broke down in detail why situations like this one are so frustrating for studios.

And then there’s the folks sparing a thought for Naughty Dog, which had the utter misfortune to release its trailer for The Last of Us 2 Remastered’s new roguelike mode right as the GTA6 leak happened. Sorry, Naughty Dog.

All in all, the vibes are good on social media and in the games community even in the wake of a massive trailer reveal not going entirely to plan. Frustrating as leaks can be for those whose work is dependent on trailers launching on time, it hasn’t curbed the hype for GTA 6. I’m not sure what could at this point.
