In Praise of Marlo Hampton, RHOA’s Secret MVP

You know that one friend who you always ran into at the group hang? Maybe you never spent that much time with them one-on-one, but just seeing their face in the crowd signaled to you that the night was bound to be a good one. We’ve all got someone in our lives like that.

And in the world of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, that someone is Marlo Hampton.

Always only a friend-of, Marlo’s been a stable, yet peripheral presence on the Georgia-based installment of Bravo’s hit franchise for nearly a decade—until now, that is. Come May 1, she’ll finally be holding a peach as a full-time cast member on RHOA‘s 14th season. It’s a well-deserved honor considering Marlo has been around longer than several members of the current cast, watching OGs come and go over the years. Hell, she’s done the seemingly unthinkable and outlasted the Housewife who introduced her. (Pour one out for the one and blooping only NeNe Leakes.)

For whatever reason, that all-important peach eluded her for a while, but it’s not hard to see why the powers-that-be finally wised up after keeping Marlo around in some capacity since her introduction all the way back in season four. And that’s because, like that friend we all have, Marlo’s a damn good time. Not only that, she makes damn good TV and just might be this season’s secret MVP.

Fortnite: Where To Plant Timed Explosives (Covert Ops Challenge)

In Fortnite, the final Covert Ops mission has finally been assigned to us by The Origin, and while it might seem easy at first, this one is a little bit trickier than it initially lets on–but we will get to that later, as first we need to, as always, establish a device uplink. This time, we have our pick between the river north of Rocky Reels, the western entrance to Tilted Towers, The Fortress, or Command Cavern. Here’s where to plant timed explosives in Fortnite.

Pick one of these four locations to hear The Origin’s voice again– er, sorry, to receive your new mission details.

Pick your poison, drop down, establish that uplink, and you’ll hear that The Origin’s got a new mission for you– he wants you to blow up a bunch of Imagined Order equipment so that hopefully, they won’t be able to do whatever it is they’re doing with that doomsday device we’ve been hearing so much about–and we’ll be able to get that sweet, sweet Secret Sledge pickaxe for ourselves.

There are a total of three explosives we need to place, and there are more than enough spots to choose from; each of the areas we established the device uplink in should have a few spots marked on the map. Some of them can be pretty hard to spot, so make sure you’re near important IO equipment, like large computers, the Airships, or the Fortress. There are several spots in Command Cavern as well, but make sure you’re staying vigilant, as the NPCs in these areas can be aggressive. Avoid or eliminate them, and keep an eye on your map for exclamation point symbols as well as the distinct white glow that the objective markers give off. If you’ve found one, you’re in luck; the others should be relatively close and easy to find.

Make sure you’re looking out for the telltale white glow of the objective points.

Once you’ve placed all three explosives, The Origin will be in touch to congratulate you for proving you have what it takes, as well as thank you for potentially turning the tide in the battle against the Imagined Order. Hit the lobby once you’re finished to be greeted with your prize; the Secret Sledge pickaxe, in all its multicolored glory.

Finally, the prize we’ve been working towards this whole time– the Secret Sledge.

Congrats, looper! You’ve completed all of the Covert Ops challenges and claimed the Secret Sledge pickaxe for yourself. Now that you’ve gotten that, make sure to check out this week’s new season challenges and Resistance quests to make sure you’re getting all the XP you deserve.

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

World’s First NFT Museum in Seattle Aims to ‘Pull Back the Curtain’ on Blockchain Art

The world’s first permanent NFT art museum has opened in Seattle, aiming to “pull back the curtain” on blockchain-based digital art.

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are a type of digital asset that has exploded in popularity recently, with NFT artworks selling for millions of dollars. NFTs exist on a blockchain, a record of transactions kept on networked computers.

The museum opened its doors on January 14, and has been providing an outlet for artists, creators, and collectors to display their NFTs in a physical setting, while aiming to educate the public about this fairly new market for digital art.

“We really realized the impact of being able to look at this type of art in a way where you actually slow down, you see all the details,” said Jennifer Wong, a co-founder and curator at Seattle NFT Museum.

Local digital artist Maksim Surguy attended the opening of the museum’s ‘Climate Conversation’ exhibition on April 16, which features his designs that are sold as NFTs online, but can also be printed in physical form.

“Previously, if you make a digital artwork or physical artwork, there were a lot of limitations about who can see the artwork or how they can own it,” said Surguy, who works in Seattle’s tech industry and ventured into crypto-based art a year and a half ago.

According to a March report from Ireland-based Research and Markets firm, the global NFT market is expected to grow to over $21 billion (roughly Rs.1,606,98 crore) in 2022.

“An NFT is really just a contract that signifies the ownership of an asset of some kind,” said Peter Hamilton, who co-founded the museum. “These tokens… are basically a contract that says this serial number belongs to this piece of art, and if you own this token, you are the rightful owner.”

The museum has programming planned throughout the year.

“I can’t emphasize enough how important the educational part of this museum is,” said Hamilton. “We’re trying to onboard folks and help them see what the value of NFTs are and help people pull back the curtain a little bit on what blockchain is and what its utility is.”

Super agent Mino Raiola dead at 54

Widely recognised football agent Mino Raiola has sadly passed away, it has been confirmed.

Reports were of course rampant across the media earlier this week that Raiola had been pronounced dead, only for the representative of some of world football’s biggest names to release a statement, refuting the news:

Raiola, however, remained in altogether poor health, confined to the hospital across the last 48 hours.

And, unfortunately, on Saturday, word of his passing has been confirmed by the Salerno native’s family.

In a post across Raiola’s social media platforms, those closest to the ‘super agent’ released a statement, reading, in full, as follows:

“In infinite sorrow, we share the passing of the most caring and amazing football agent that ever was.

“Mino fought until the end with the same strength he put on negotiation tables to defend our players. As usual, Mino made us proud and never realised it.

“Mino touched so many lives through his work and wrote a new chapter in the history of modern football. His presence will forever be missed.

“Mino’s mission of making football a better place for players will continue with the same passion.

“We thank everybody for the huge amount of support received during these difficult times and ask for respect to the privacy of family and friends in this moment of grief.”

Raiola’s list of clientele included the likes of Paul Pogba, Erling Haaland, Matthijs de Ligt and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

India to Offer More Incentives to Lure Companies in Semiconductors Push: IT Minister

India on Friday said it will expand its incentives for those investing in semiconductor manufacturing, as its government woos global companies in a bid to become a key player in the global supply chain for chips.

A $10 billion (roughly Rs. 76,523 crore) incentive plan to attract semiconductor and display makers has drawn applications from companies such as a joint venture between Indian conglomerate Vedanta and Taiwan’s Foxconn, and Singapore’s IGSS Ventures.

“After this first tranche gets utilised, we definitely will go for more,” the country’s IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in an address at India’s first semiconductor conference in the southern city of Bengaluru.

“We have appetite for more, we have need for more.”

The Indian semiconductor market, worth $15 billion (roughly Rs.1,147,84 crore) in 2020, is estimated to reach $63 billion (4,82,096 crore) by 2026, the government says.

Even as more firms and countries seek to ensure access to the chips at the core of critical technologies such as 5G and those of the future, the world’s chip market is dominated by manufacturers in Taiwan, the United States and few other countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi told at the Bengaluru conference India wanted to emerge as a key player in global semiconductor supply chains, urging companies to consider setting up. The push is part of Modi’s flagship “Make in India” project.

Part of the government’s efforts to attract big ticket investments, the three-day meeting has drawn executives of tech giants Intel, TSMC and Micron Technology.

At the event, India’s junior IT minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the world’s leading majors were “actively engaged in exploring the India opportunity”.

In the race to become India’s first chip maker, Vedanta is seeking incentives such as 1,000 acres (405 hectares) of free land, as part of its $20-billion (roughly Rs. 1,53,046 crore) foray into semiconductors and displays, Reuters reported on Thursday.

Chinatown Detective Agency Is the Carmen Sandiego Reimagining I Always Wanted

Before I ever owned a game console or settled into the identity of being a gamer, I was still playing games. Specifically, educational games on a clunky Packard Bell like Reader Rabbit, Cluefinders, and one of my favorites, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

This was before our household had internet, or even before internet game guides were a thing. So when an in-game witness told me, a nine-year-old child, “He asked if I wanted to come along, because he had reservations for two in Kisumu,” my options were limited to staring at a giant globe we had on the nearby mantlepiece, thumbing through a dictionary or encyclopedia, or running to my mom to ask if she knew what it meant (a hit or miss strategy, depending on the clue). I always got a thrill out of this kind of sleuthing, and a lot of my earliest geography lessons came from trying to puzzle out where one of V.I.L.E.’s worst villains had run off to after swiping entire landmarks off the map.

When I opened Chinatown Detective Agency for the first time last week, I didn’t expect to be transported back to the old Packard Bell and globe deductions almost 30 years later, but there I was. Set in Singapore in 2037, its story follows private investigator Amira Darma as she investigates a series of mysteries both within the city and abroad. Each case leaves a trail of clues to follow, but many of them require additional sleuthing outside of the game and are designed specifically to be researched online. For instance, one of the earliest puzzles gives you a cryptic quote, and asks you to learn either the name of the book it came from, or its author. You won’t find either in-game anywhere, but a quick Google search brings it up immediately and lets you proceed.

Chinatown Detective Agency’s inspirations are clearly painted all over it, from the clunky moving menus, to the research puzzles, to the interface that prompts you to deduce where in the world you need to buy a plane ticket to next. Creative director Mark Fillon immediately reassures me that my intense experience of Carmen Sandiego nostalgia was intentional. He, like me, grew up on Carmen’s adventures, puzzling over a world map and encyclopedias for answers outside of the in-game fiction and marveling at what he learned. But what’s different about Chinatown Detective Agency is that it is thoroughly a game for adults. More of a “hard-boiled” detective story, as Fillon puts it.

“If I were to summarize it, it’s Carmen Sandiego for people who’ve grown up,” he says. “I felt that if we were going to do this it would tackle mature themes, subject matter that requires real thinking, requires real research.”

And they certainly do. Fillon says he wanted to ensure the puzzles weren’t too esoteric, but they do cover a span of topics such as ancient languages, cryptography, history, and more. And they become more difficult as you go. Fortunately, stumped players can always reach out to the in-game librarian Mei Ting for enthusiastic help, either a vague hint or a flat-out solution.

It’s Carmen Sandiego for people who’ve grown up.

One minor wrinkle in Fillon’s plan to have players do their own research turned out to be, inadvertently, the very research tool he wanted players to use. During my own playthrough of Chinatown Detective Agency, my Google searches for answers almost immediately pulled full game guides to the top that simply gave away all the answers even in the article’s metadata, making the pursuit of information far less rewarding than it would have been had I been forced to properly sift through more normal, historical search results. Fillon admits the team probably should have foreseen this problem and planned for it, but what’s done is done.

“We just didn’t know that it would skew the algorithm so much,” he says. “And I suppose it’s a testament to how well received it is, that people are actually doing it. But I know it makes it really tricky for first timers who are genuinely looking for material that can help them progress…I am of the opinion that folks who are immersed in that moment, in the mission, when they type it on their Google they’d be forgiving and just look past and gloss over a lot of those walkthroughs and look for real results, whether it’s from Wikipedia or whichever reference material.”

It’s certainly easy enough to become immersed in the Singapore of Chinatown Detective Agency, in no small part due to the care Fillon and his team put into creating it. Fillon tells me they strove for authenticity in every part of their adventure, including its voice acting, sound design, and visuals. Some of those elements were a bit more difficult than others to create, however, especially with a fully remote team during a pandemic. For instance, art director Ricardo Juchem had never visited Singapore when he initially began working on the project. He did eventually, but in the meantime Fillon would frequently send him photos of locations around the city to inform the game’s backgrounds. Juchem also used other, more imaginative ways of getting the lay of the land, including Google Street View and, in one case, flying an airplane in Microsoft Flight Simulator to get a good angle on a specific location, and taking a screenshot to base his own environments on.

It felt like if Singapore were at that level of disorder you know the world has gone completely wrong.

Of course, the Singapore of Chinatown Detective Agency isn’t a modern day Singapore. It takes place in 2037 – so the future, but not the far-off future. Fillon says that was intentional, as he wanted to tell a futuristic story that was still understandable for the audience as a real, near possibility rather than something imaginative and far-off. It’s our world, but it’s a version of our world where things never really get better.

“We envisioned a world where the pandemic has just basically cost a mass economic stagnation,” he says. “People are out of jobs. Governments are running out of funds. The Singapore you see in Chinatown Detective Agency is like a very extreme opposite of what Singapore is today. Singapore is known for being a well-oiled machine, right? It’s very well organized. It’s a case study in how a government should run a country. Things just work.

“But in Chinatown Detective Agency we imagined what would happen if the police force ran out of money, what would happen if public transportation ran out of money. It would pretty much drastically change Singapore on a fundamental level, and that informs the plots and the story arcs beyond Singapore.”

Fillon adds that designing this particular vision of Singapore felt a bit like “eating forbidden fruit” – a dystopian future for his country just isn’t something people want to talk about.

Chinatown Detective Agency — Screens from Humble Games Showcase 2022

“It stands out to someone who’s been to Singapore because everything here is squeaky clean,” he says. “There are no cracks on the glass. The stickers and the posters on the subway are super neat. The edges are super straight and they’re light colored. In the game they’re dark gray and barely running and noisy and just broken, and imagining that was a little bit scary because it felt like if Singapore were at that level of disorder you know the world has gone completely wrong.”

Chinatown Detective Agency, then, uses nostalgia for the past to tell a futuristic story. Fillon feels that with the advent of the internet, knowledge has become so accessible that the journey of discovery and learning new things has become something most people take for granted. He hopes that with Chinatown Detective Agency, he can renew some of that spark for his audience.

“The hope is that if someone has enjoyed playing it, that it’s rekindled some sort of interest in just learning something new again. I don’t want to use that word ‘edu-tainment’ because it has such a stigma attached to it. But I suppose if it’s used as a vehicle to tell a captivating story, hey, you know what, I have no problems with that.”

Microsoft Edge Secure Network VPN Service Powered by Cloudflare Spotted in Support Post

Microsoft appears to be currently testing an additional security layer for the Edge browser called Edge Secure Network, which offers a built-in VPN powered by Cloudflare. The new layer of security and privacy to the browsing service was recently spotted on the support page of Microsoft’s website. With a detailed introduction of the Microsoft Edge Secure Network feature, the support page also mentions ways in which it provides additional security. For now, there’s no telling when the feature will arrive.

The Microsoft Edge Secure Network VPN service is not available to users yet. Its support post, spotted first by XDA Developers, details that it will come with a monthly 1GB free data limit with the user’s Microsoft Account. To keep an account of the data that has been used/left in a month, one can turn on the shield icon. It also reflects the date for the auto renewal of data. As of now, the company has not given any details on subscription fee for data usage beyond 1GB.

However, it appears to be similar to Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 service. In the support post, Microsoft has also given a glimpse of how the Microsoft Edge Secure Network will function to ensure privacy. The proxy uses limited diagnostic and support data, which is automatically deleted every 25 hours. This helps to keep the user safe by keeping important details away from prying eyes, even on public Wi-Fi networks.

While the Edge Secure Network feature is not yet available, the post details how to use it. One has to sign into their Microsoft account, and then go to Settings and More > Turn on Microsoft Edge Secure Network to enable the feature. To ensure your browsing experience is protected, you can check the shield icon in the browser frame. However, the feature will turn off once you close Microsoft Edge. The user needs to turn it on again on their next browsing session.

When you sign in to Microsoft Edge using a Microsoft account, the data will be synced automatically. This includes browsing history, favourites, settings, data saved to fill forms, passwords and extensions. However, one can also choose to turn the sync on and off individually for each data type.

Instacart’s Pandemic Boom Is Fading

Mr. Mehta told each company that he was talking to one of its biggest competitors, so it had to act fast. But the discussions did not get far. The other companies had concerns about the price and antitrust scrutiny. Instacart declined to comment on deal talks, which were previously reported by The Information.

Around that time, there were tense discussions between Mr. Mehta and a group of board members led by Michael Moritz, an investor from Sequoia Capital, said four people with knowledge of the situation. The talks with DoorDash and Uber were part of those discussions, some of those people said. (Still, Instacart and Mr. Mehta have said his departure was a voluntary move.)

Before Ms. Simo was named chief executive in July, there was a brief discussion about making her and Mr. Mehta co-chief executives, three people with knowledge of the situation said. That idea was quickly abandoned, and Mr. Mehta became chairman. (The chief executive of The New York Times, Meredith Kopit Levien, joined Instacart’s board of directors in October 2021.)

Carolyn Everson, a former Facebook executive who became Instacart’s president in September, left the company after just three months — the highest-profile departure from the company, which also lost its chief revenue officer as well as the person who was president before Ms. Everson. Ms. Everson was not happy because she ended up spending most of her time working on the company’s relationships with grocery executives, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

Instacart’s business has continued to grow through the management turmoil, hitting $1.8 billion in revenue last year, a person familiar with the business said. But that was far from the quadrupling growth of 2020.

Grocery industry experts and some inside Instacart have floated the idea that the company should cut out grocers by opening its own warehouses of goods, which could be more lucrative. But Ms. Simo has steadfastly opposed the move. Instead, she has tightened Instacart’s relationships with grocers, including Kroger, Publix, Wegmans and Costco.

These are the BTC price levels to watch as Bitcoin risks worst April on record

Bitcoin (BTC) sits at a historically important price point for hodlers, but where could it be headed in the coming days?

As the monthly close looms and various countries prepare for the May holidays, traders are mapping out the options — with some surprises.

$35,000 becomes key focus

While Bitcoin market commentators rarely agree on much, one thing is more or less accepted this week — that April’s monthly close will be volatile.

Due over the weekend, that volatility has the potential to be exacerbated by a lack of trading volume thanks to markets being off either for the weekend or long weekend.

Even with macro participation, however, the situation would seem not to favor Bitcoin bulls. As Cointelegraph reported, Friday saw major indices, with the notable exception of China, finish in the red.

“Nothing bullish about this candle other than that it’s still above monthly support (but that could change today),” popular Twitter trader Cryptotoad thus summarized as part of his latest update.

“Next monthly support at $35k.”

April has so far delivered 15% losses on BTC/USD, the worst month of April in Bitcoin’s history, data from on-chain monitoring resource Coinglass shows.

BTC/USD monthly returns chart (screenshot). Source: Coinglass

BTC/USD has so far managed to avoid a drop below liquidity at around $37,500, but Cryptotoad is not the only one arguing that this could now become a near-term chart focus.

Jordan Lindsey, founder of trading firm JCL Capital, flagged $35,000 as one of what he sees as just two important “big technical levels.”

“The only two levels that matter now in Bitcoin. $35k is channel support and below is major technical breakdown. Price is technically bullish since $38k on Feb 4th posted on this account and neutral since $53k breakdown. Everything else has been noise,” he told Twitter followers Friday.

Should that drop materialize, it would place Bitcoin not so far from last week’s worst case scenario target of $30,000, described as both an “ultimate bottom” and a likely level to reach by June.

“Decent relief” could follow spot level retention

Adopting a more optimistic view, meanwhile, fellow trader Credible Crypto argued that avoiding the sub-$37,000 dip places Bitcoin in a stronger position.

Related: $27K ‘max pain’ Bitcoin price is ultimate buy-the-dip opportunity, says research

“If we can hold here we should see some decent relief,” he tweeted Saturday alongside a chart illustrating the prognosis.

“As per my last update I can see valid arguments for both but give the edge to the bullish scenario due to wave structure. Easy invalidation at 37.7k, if we hit that expect a flush into the orange region and 36k’s.”

At the time of writing, with around 12 hours left until the close, BTC/USD traded at $38,600.
