Roman Abramovich ‘willing to let Chelsea go under’ according to Government officials

Roman Abramovich ‘willing to let Chelsea go under’ according to Government officials

After a tumultuous few months where even the club Megastore was forced to shut, Chelsea had seemingly got back on the right track again with a bid by Todd Boehly to take the club out of the hands of the sanctioned Roman Abramovich expected to go through by the end of May.

However, that is all back up in the air again amidst concerns that the deal may not go through in time for the deadline of the end of May.

As per the Telegraph, ‘Chelsea are refusing to accept their new plan to put the loan in an escrow account – a legal arrangement in which a third party temporarily holds the money – before the Government is convinced that the money can be safely paid into the foundation for Ukraine war victims, which Abramovich is setting up.’

Roman Abramovich has been in charge of Chelsea since 2003.

One senior government source told BBC Sport that ‘there’s a quite serious concern in Government that the deal may fall apart and that Roman Abramovich is ultimately willing to let Chelsea go under’ This is because of Abramovich’s ‘refusal to agree to a sale structure that gives ministers confidence that proceeds would go to a good cause’.

Meanwhile, the Abramovich camp deny such allegations, several reports suggest that the £1.6bn loan that Roman Abramovich agreed to write off has become a major sticking point.

What does this mean for the club?

In short, the Blues remain in limbo, with the club shop still shut and only season ticket holders allowed to attend home games. Meanwhile, the sanctions mean that they have been unable to offer key players new contracts, with both Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger set to leave for free to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

They could miss out on summer transfer targets too if the situation is not sorted imminently, and the latest complication will do nothing for the mood in the camp.

NaLyssa Smith Leaves Game Against Atlanta With Right Ankle Injury

Rookie NaLyssa Smith injured her right ankle while running back on defense during the Indiana Fever’s matchup with the Atlanta Dream. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft did not return to the game with the injury transpiring with just 6:29 remaining on the game clock.

When Smith left the game, she was working with a season-high 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists on 6-16 shooting from the floor, including knocking down three triples. The Fever ultimately fell short to the Dream, 85-79.

According to James Boyd of the IndyStar, Fever Coach, Marianne Stanley did not indicate how severe the injury was.

“It’s swollen,” Stanley said of Smith’s ankle.” But I don’t know how serious it is right now.”

Meanwhile, fellow rookie Rhyne Howard finished the game with 33 points, including a WNBA rookie record of 17 points in the first quarter. Howard shot 9-18 from the floor, including 3-8 from beyond the arc. The former Kentucky Wildcat added three rebounds, there steals, and two assists in 32 minutes of action.

The Fever will host the Dream again on Tuesday at 7 pm.

The Broken News First Look: Sonali Bendre to Make OTT Debut With Zee5’s Journalism Drama

The Broken News first look is here. Zee5 has unveiled the poster for its Hindi-language adaptation of the British journalism series Press. It marks the streaming platform’s first collaboration with BBC Studios India– the production and distribution arm of the BBC. The first look introduces us to The Broken News cast, headlined by Sonali Bendre, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Shriya Pilgaonkar. The show marks Bendre’s debut on subscription-based streaming service, colloquially known as OTT (over-the-top) services. Bendre said that she chose The Broken News as the character resonated with her.

Bendre told Midday, “The first thing is I liked the script, the character I’m playing (in The Broken News) and what the show is saying. It resonates! The second part is, I’m in a phase of life where it’s more about me, I have more time. I want to do a lot more and get back to work. Though I had been working, it wasn’t priority, now it is! There’s so much fun stuff happening, that I’m feeling a little left out. Even I want to be part of it too.”

It’s yet to be seen whether The Broken News helps Bendre, who acted in popular Hindi movies such as the actioner Aag and the drama Zakhm in the 90s, begin her new innings on a good note.

Pilgaonkar and Ahlawat , on the other hand, are no strangers to the digital space. Pilgaonkar rose to fame when she played a key character in the action-packed series Mirzapur. Similarly, Ahlawat received critical acclaim for his work in the crime drama Paatal Lok and went on to appear in the Zee5 series Bloody Brothers. In addition to the lead trio, The Broken News Cast includes Indraneil Sengupta, Taaruk Raina, Aakash Khurana, and Kiran Kumar.

Not a lot is known about The Broken News story but we can expect it to be a bit different from the one featured in Press as, unlike the original — which dealt with print journalism — this explores the dark side of the television media. Moreover, the plot is likely to be tweaked to appeal to the Indian audience.

The Broken News release date is yet to be announced.

Monty Williams On Why He Benched Deandre Ayton After 17 Minutes: ‘It’s Internal’

In the Phoenix Sun’s season-ending Game 7 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, everything that could’ve gone wrong did. The Suns were simply outclassed from buzzer to buzzer, and their franchise-record 64 wins were all for naught as they exited the playoffs after two rounds.

Out of the many Suns player who had a rough Game 7 outing, Deandre Ayton’s performance raised a good deal of questions. In 17 minutes of action, Ayton finished with five points and four rebounds on 2-5 shooting from the field. Ayton’s 6’11 frame and 7’6 wingspan would’ve been an advantage against a Mavericks team that had no answers for a player like Ayton who can score on the inside and dominate the gas.

When Coach Monty Williams was asked about Ayton’s minutes, he gave an answer that led to more questions about Ayton’s future with Phoenix. The former No. 1 overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft is headed into restricted free agency after his representation, and the Phoenix front office couldn’t agree to a long-term extension. Which reportedly led to some tension between Ayton and the front office.

According to multiple reports, Ayton and Williams had a few words after the Suns head coach benched him shortly into the second half. The Suns didn’t come out of the break with the necessary sense of energy, allowing the Mavs to raise their lead to as much as 46 points.

Ayton posted 17.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game this season, but the Suns’ defense didn’t perform at a high level with him on the court (2.3 points per 100 possessions, according to NBC Sports). In the playoffs, Ayton only had a few max contract quality performances, posting 28 points and 17 rebounds in Game 3 of the Suns-Pelicans first-round series and a 25/8 performance in Game 1 of the Suns-Mavs series.

When Devin Booker was about Ayton’s contract negotiations, he didn’t necessarily give his long-time teammate a resounding endorsement or demand that Phoenix re-sign the former Arizona Wildcat.

The Suns running it back with a similar roster might be the best plan; perhaps add another All-Star level playmaker to help alleviate the pressure off Devin Booker and Chris Paul from having to create shots for their teammates and themselves

Both participants of the 2021 NBA Finals are eliminated from the playoffs after Phoenix and the Milwaukee Bucks lost their respective Game 7s on Sunday.

Packers DB breaks record with new extension

The Green Bay Packers have signed Jaire Alexander to a four-year contract extension, including a record signing bonus for the position.

Alexander was set to play on his fifth-year option, in which he would have earned $13 million. However, the veteran cornerback and his agent were not content with that situation, and approached Green Bay about a possible extension earlier this offseason.

Green Bay agreed, and would surely rather have the Louisville product in the building long-term, rather than having him hit the open market via free agency next offseason. So, the Packers inked Alexander to an extension on Monday morning.

Jaire Alexander contract with Packers

Alexander’s contract is a four-year, $84 million deal, which includes $31 million in 2022 with a $30 million signing bonus.

If that signing bonus sounds like a lot, that’s because it is. Alexander’s bonus is the highest ever for a player at his position. Per Adam Schefter, when combined with his fifth-year option, he’ll receive $42.5 million by next March.

https://mobile.twitter.com/PFF/status/1526212823692492800

Alexander’s cap hit for this year will be just over $1 million. So to recap; some cap gymnastics by Brian Gutekunst helped make Alexander the highest-paid DB in the NFL, but also allowed the Packers not to be over the cap this season.

And that’s why he’s qualified to be the GM, folks.

The 10 most expensive NFTs sold to date

Nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, are turning out to be a treasure store with prices striding into the millions of dollars. Instances of an NFT garnering more than $69 million or a tweet fetching $2.9 million are not a fantasy, but an incredible reality.

In 2021, an NFT by digital artist Beeple, or Mike Winkelmann, sold for a whopping $69 million, making NFTs a media hotshot and opening the floodgates for a string of other NFT sales, many of these in millions of dollars. Prompted by the plentiful talk about NFTs, stars like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Eminem, Grimes and many more have hopped onto the NFT bandwagon.

In 2022, NFTs have been garnering attention from investors, artists and collectors alike. Let’s take a glance at the 10 most expensive NFTs sold to date:

Beeple’s Crossroads — $6.6 million

Sold via Nifty Gateway, Beeple’s NFT Crossroads came as a response to the 2020 United States presidential election. The piece shows a despondent figure, supposedly Trump, lying on the ground and symbolizing the former president after losing the election.

Crossroads also featured two videos, one with a triumphant Trump and the other a solemn one. What would eventually play depended on the outcome of the election.

Ocean Front — $6 Million

Aimed at the climate crisis, the Ocean Front depicts a tree atop trailers and shipping containers stationed on a platform. Captioned “together we can solve this,” the NFT was auctioned for charity and the beneficiary was the Open Earth Foundation, a nonprofit organization.

One of the most valuable NFTs of the time, the Ocean Front, started bidding at $2.77 million. The winner of the bid was Justin Sun, the founder of the Tron Foundation.

Right-click and Save As Guy — $7.08 million

Snoop Dogg bought XCOPY’s NFT Right-click and Save As Guy, created as a satire of people who don’t recognize the worth of crypto art.

Right-click and Save As Guy serves as a reminder that it is the receipts associated with the art that cannot be copied, thanks to blockchain technology and not the image itself.

CryptoPunk #7804 — $7.57 million

CryptoPunks are an assemblage of 10,000 unique characters hosted on the Ethereum blockchain, and no two CryptoPunks exactly resemble each other, making them highly valuable. CryptoPunk #7804 stands out for having some rare traits across the whole collection.

These traits include Alien skin, possessed only by 0.09% of the collection. A pipe is another feature, present with only 3% of the collection. The small shades are yet another feature that only 4% of the collection has. There is the “cap forward” trait as well, which is on just 3% of the NFTs. These attributes make CryptoPunk #7804 such a rarity, making it one of the highest-selling NFTs.

CryptoPunk #3100 — $7.58 million

As one of the nine Alien Punks, CryptoPunk #3100 features the Alien skin as well, which is a major factor pushing the token’s value up. The NFT with bluish-green skin also gets a unique look with a white-and-blue headband. The fact that only 406 out of 10,000 in the collection wear a headband underlines its rarity.

First released in 2017, CryptoPunk #3100 gained prominence with a $2 million bid in March 2021 and was eventually bought at $7.58 million in the same month.

CryptoPunk #7523 — $11.7 million

Like other expensive NFTs in the series, CryptoPunk #7523 has a gamut of rare features as well. It is a component of the Alien sub-collection. CryptoPunk #7523 stands out with three attributes possessed by 24% of the collection and an earring, which is only in 25% of the collection.

Other rare features include a knitted cap, while the medical mask is shared by only 2% of the collection. But, even with these rarities taken into account, the price of $11.7 million that it fetched is mind-boggling.

Human One — $28.9 million

Designed by Beeple, Human one is a digital and physical hybrid piece of artwork. A peculiar fact about Human One is that its artwork keeps changing over time. Beeple retains remote access to the artwork and updates it periodically.

The NFT showcases an astronaut ambling through the different backgrounds that change over time. Experiments fusing various TVs into different shapes and patterns influence the appearance of the NFT.

Clocks — $52.74 million

Clocks was meant to raise funds to defend Julian Assange after his controversial imprisonment in May 2019. He was facing charges of espionage due to his association with WikiLeaks, a website he founded. The clock showcases the number of days Assange had been behind bars.

Over 10,000 supporters own a share of the NFT that carries a price tag of $56 million. The beneficiary of the NFT was the Wau Holland Foundation, which has been supporting Assange’s cause.

Everydays: the First 5,000 Days — $69.3 million

Another creation of Beeple, the First 5,000 Days, is a colossal compilation of 5,000 pieces of artwork that differs in terms of content, medium and style that Beeple made every day starting in 2007. Often relying on dystopian or satirical settings, these art pieces have been highly appreciated by aficionados.

To date, it has been the most expensive collage of NFT art pieces ever sold to one sole owner.

The Merge — $91.8 million

Created by artist Pak, The Merge occupies the top position as the most expensive NFT ever sold. Though the artist has never revealed their actual identity, they have a huge presence in the digital art space.

The Merge isn’t a static art piece, but a mash-up of “masses” that anyone interested could buy. When starting, the NFT consisted of three large dots against a black background. The size of the dots increased as the number of buyers went up.

The way ahead

A few months into 2022, NFTs are still going strong. With no caps on how high NFT prices might go, this domain within crypto presents a lucrative opportunity for anyone, who could manage to mint into the right projects and exhibit some patience.

Acharya OTT Release Date Set for May 20 on Amazon Prime Video

Acharya is set to premiere Amazon Prime Video on May 20, the streaming platform has announced. The Telugu-language actioner comes to subscription-based streaming services, colloquially referred to as over-the-top (OTT) services, less than a month after it was released in theatres on April 29. Acharya opened to a good response at the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana box office — earning a share of nearly Rs 29.5 crore on the first day — but failed to sustain. It collected nearly Rs. 38.45 crore in Telugu states during its full run, recovering merely 38 percent of the pre-release investment, and ended up being a commercial failure.

Headlined by Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan, the Acharya cast features Pooja Hegde, Sonu Sood, Jisshu Sengupta, and Kishore in supporting roles. Kajal Aggarwal was to play Chiranjeevi’s love interest in the movie but her portions were removed as the makers felt they did not fit the narrative. This was the Gang Leader actor’s first release since the 2019 release Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. Charan, on the other hand, was seen in the period drama RRR, which was released nearly a month before Acharya.

Acharya is written and directed by Koratala Siva, who previously directed movies such as the Jr NTR-led Janatha Garage and the political drama Bharat Ane Nenu, and marks his first collaboration with Chiranjeevi. It is produced by Charan under his Konidela Production Company, best known for backing the previously-mentioned Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and the actioner Khaidi No 150.

Acharya revolves around a middle-aged Naxalite-turned-reformer, played by Chiranjeevi, who locks horns with the Endowments department for misusing funds meant for temples. As the story progresses, we are introduced to Charan’s Siddha, a braveheart who protects Dharmasthali– the link between a divine river and the sacred land. Acharya’s music has been composed by Mani Sharma, who is known for his work on movies such as the action-drama Indra and the Gopichand-led Seetimaarr.

Acharya will be out May 20 on Amazon Prime Video

UN welcomes end of fairly contested presidential election, calls for unity — Global Issues

The United Nations in Somalia welcomed the conclusion of the country’s presidential election held on Sunday, praising the “positive” nature of the electoral process and peaceful transfer of power.

“I would like to congratulate the newly-elected President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on his victory tonight”, said the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, in the early hours of Monday morning.

He also expressed “our appreciation to the other candidates, and particularly outgoing President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohamed ‘Farmaajo,’ for respecting the outcome and for continuing the Somali tradition of embracing whoever wins and supporting them going forward – the  atmosphere tonight, I think, was very positive”.

The top UN official in Somalia was speaking at the conclusion of the election, at the venue in Mogadishu known locally as the “hangar,” located near the Aden Adde International Airport, where he and other representatives of Somalia’s international partners had been invited.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud won office on the third round of voting by the country’s parliamentarians, after some twelve hours of voting and counting. There had been close to 40 candidates standing for the office.

‘Difficult moments’

The UN Special Representative flagged that the electoral process had been a long one, as well as actively competitive – and that focusing on domestic and state-building priorities should now become the focus of attention.

There have been some difficult moments in this lengthy election. However, I believe that tonight’s process demonstrated that it was a genuine horse race, that it was a competitive election, and that there was an opportunity for all of the candidates to contest fairly, and, so I think this is an opportunity now to demonstrate that the outcome is credible,” Mr. Swan said.

Time to ‘come together’

Now it’s time for Somalis and for Somalia’s friends to come together to support the new government as it is installed, and to work on the critical national priorities that still face Somalia,” he added. “There’s much work to be done, and we look forward to being Somalia’s partners going forward.”

Mr. Swan also noted that some of the country’s critical priorities include finishing the constitutional review process, addressing urgent needs for improved development, security and the current drought.

In a tweet later on Monday, the UN in Somalia also praised Somalia’s parliamentary Speakers and Deputy Speakers, the presidential election organizing committee and professional parliamentary staff, as well as Somali security forces and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia, for ensuring the orderly, peaceful, and secure electoral process.
