Yves Pons to replace injured Mathias Lessort on France’s FIBA World Cup roster

France’s national team has announced that 24-year-old forward Yves Pons will be making his first appearance for the country in the upcoming FIBA World Cup. Pons will be stepping in for Mathias Lessort, who is being rested due to an injury.

The announcement came as a pleasant surprise for Pons, who recently signed with Basquet Girona after being released from ASVEL Basket in July.

Having previously represented France at various youth levels, Pons is excited to make his mark on the senior team. The forward helped France secure a gold medal at the 2014 European Under-16 Championship and represented the country in 2016 World Under-17 Championship as well as 2019 European Under-20 Championship.

With France set to compete in Group H alongside Canada, Latvia, and Lebanon, Pons’ inclusion adds depth and versatility to the squad. Pons joins a talented roster, which includes NBA stars and European standouts such as Rudy Gobert, Nicolas Batum, Evan Fournier and Nando De Colo.
