Victor Wembanyama might sit out back-to-back games
The Spurs are preparing to handle the development of their prized rookie, Victor Wembanyama, with caution, according to reports.
Despite the excitement surrounding Wembanyama’s potential, San Antonio is expected to limit his playing time and implement a conservative approach to manage his workload.
League insiders anticipate that Wembanyama will not log anywhere near the 33 minutes per game played by last year’s top pick and Rookie of the Year, Paolo Banchero. The Spurs’ intention is to prioritize the long-term growth and health of the young French talent.
“The Spurs will presumably work a ton on his body and manage his minutes, not play him in back-to-back games, etcetera, which is smart,” said an Eastern Conference assistant GM, via Ric Bucher of Fox Sports. “They’ll handle it right.”
Wembanyama himself has shown agreement with this approach, declining to participate in the FIBA World Cup for the French national team in order to focus on his preparation for his debut NBA season.
