USA Basketball regains top spot in FIBA men’s world rankings

Despite not winning a medal at the World Cup, USA Basketball has returned to the top spot in the FIBA men’s world rankings. They switched places with Spain, who are now ranked second, while World Cup champion Germany has climbed eight spots to achieve their highest-ever ranking at third place.

Canada jumped up nine places to claim the sixth spot in the world rankings after winning the bronze medal. Latvia, making its first World Cup quarterfinal appearance, surged 22 spots to land at No. 8.

The current top 10 teams include the U.S., Spain, Germany, Australia (now at No. 4, slipping one spot), Serbia (rising to No. 5 after their World Cup silver), Canada, Argentina (dropping three spots despite not qualifying for the World Cup), Latvia, France (down four spots to No. 9), and Lithuania (also down four spots to No. 10).
