“Unfinished business”: Ryan Giggs plots return to football management – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United’s all-time appearance maker, Ryan Giggs, is aiming to return to football management after stepping down as Wales boss in 2022.

The former United winger served as interim manager of his boyhood club for four games after the sacking of David Moyes and worked as an assistant coach to Louis van Gaal.

He took over the reins as Welsh boss in 2018 but due to legal problems, he left the role in 2020 and officially stepped down in 2022.

Giggs was eventually acquitted of domestic abuse charges in 2023 after his former girlfriend, Kate Greville, “informed the prosecution in May that she no longer wanted to give evidence because she felt ‘worn down’ and ‘violated’ by the process”.

It was announced recently that Giggs had been working as director of football at Salford City football club since the start of the season.

However, according to The Athletic, it is a return to management that he really dreams of.

Naturally, due to his off-field problems over the years, it is “clear that prospective employers would have to consider the damage to his reputation” and are understandably nervous to employ him as his public standing has been heavily tarnished after details of his personal life have emerged over the past decade or so.

However, this does not seem to have deterred the Welshman from believing that he can return. He “called his spell in caretaker charge of United his proudest moment” and it “also left him convinced he could do the job full-time”.

It was relayed here back in February that Giggs yearned for a return to football coaching as he “missed the feeling” of being in the dugout.

The Athletic report that Giggs has been giving speeches around the country and whilst “it is not quite Giggs on tour, it does feel like a man putting himself back out there”.

Speaking on the matter of a return at a speech covered by the American outlet he claimed, “there’s a bit of unfinished business. I was obviously enjoying coaching Wales. We had a pretty successful time. And yeah, I loved it. So I don’t see why not”.

However, a recent snubbing for entry into the Premier League Hall of Fame perhaps highlights the huge amount of work he needs to do to overturn his public image in 2024.
