Trail Blazers optimistic about first-round pick in potential Damian Lillard trade

According to a report by Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Trail Blazers are increasingly hopeful of acquiring a first-round pick in a potential Damian Lillard trade.

Lillard, after spending 11 years with the Blazers, expressed his desire to be traded to the Heat, believing his championship aspirations would be better served elsewhere.

However, the Heat have struggled to assemble a package that meets the Blazers’ expectations. While Miami’s Tyler Herro is one of their best assets, Portland is not interested in acquiring the point guard, as they recently drafted promising point guard Scoot Henderson with the third overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft.

League sources indicate that the Blazers may explore multi-team trade scenarios involving Miami, with optimism that they can secure a first-round pick from another franchise more willing to acquire Herro.

Although early rumors linked Brooklyn and Chicago to Herro, the Jazz have also emerged as a potential suitor. Last year, the Jazz’s interest in Herro was a topic of discussion, with speculations of a potential trade involving Donovan Mitchell. This aligns with the Heat’s potential package for Lillard and a hypothetical offer from the New York Knicks featuring R.J. Barrett.

As the trade talks progress, the Trail Blazers remain optimistic about obtaining valuable assets, including a coveted first-round pick, to reshape their roster and build for the future.
