Three Manchester United players involved in winning Finalissima – Man United News And Transfer News

A number of Manchester United players have been in action tonight on international duty.

In the Women’s Finalissima at Wembley Stadium three United players started, Mary Earps, Alessia Russo and Ella Toone.

Maya Le Tissier was an unused substitute.

It felt like Deja Vu as opening the scoring was Toone in the 23rd minute. It was a brilliant team goal as James found herself in a good position, finding Stanway and Bronze, who had a little one-two before the latter cut it back for Toone who was waiting in the middle to smash it past the keeper.

The elation from both player and manager was clear to see.

England dominated the first half but struggled to wiggle their way through Brazil’s back five.

Russo made some brilliant runs but couldn’t get herself on the score sheet.

In the second half, Brazil were much more dominant as England struggled to keep hold of the ball. It was given away cheaply and Geyse got a powerful shot off but Earps saved well, tipping it over the bar.

The equaliser was always coming though and as Earps spilled, Brazil’s Alves da Silva poked it into the goal in the 93rd minute. The game headed straight to penalties.

Ella Toone missed her penalty but luckily, Mary Earps fantastically saved Brazil’s next, another miss for Brazil and England just had to keep their composure. Chloe Kelly stepped up and scored the winning penalty.

The Lionesses rushed to Earps who had been getting the crowd all fired up and had put in a solid shift throughout the night, you could see what the victory meant to her, she had handled the pressure well.

It was third time lucky for the Lionesses, it’s the first time they’ve won a penalty shoot-out and only the third they’ve ever been involved in.

England will play again on Tuesday where they will face Australia in a friendly, their final game before they join up for the World Cup.
