The Last of Us Part II Remastered Is Up for Preorder

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is set to release exclusively for PS5 on January 19. It’s more than just a simple remaster of the PS4 original, though. In addition to improved graphics, it will include a roguelike survival mode called “No Return,” as well as bonuses like developer commentary and a look at some cut levels that didn’t make it into the original game. It’s available to preorder now at a variety of retailers (see it at Amazon), in two editions. Have a look below.

Preorder The Last of Us 2 Remastered

The standard physical edition sells for $49.99 and is available to preorder wherever games are sold.

PS4 to PS5 Upgrade Will Be Available for $10

Starting January 19, owners of the PS4 version of The Last of Us Part II will be able to upgrade to the new version for $10 on the PlayStation Store. If you have a physical copy of the game, you’ll only be able to upgrade if you have a PS5 with a disc drive. Also, you’ll need to keep your disc on hand, because you have to insert the disc every time you want to play your upgraded game.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered W.L.F Edition (SOLD OUT)

The collector’s edition is called the W.L.F. edition. It’s available exclusively at PlayStation Direct, and it comes with the full game, plus the following digital items:

  • 47 total Society of Champions trading cards with 8 limited edition holographic cards
  • Washington Liberation Front patch
  • Set of four enamel pins
  • SteelBook display case

What’s New in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered?

The biggest addition to The Last of Us Part II is “No Return,” a new roguelike survival mode. It lets you play as characters like Dina, Jesse, Tommy, and more as you fight through a randomized selection of locations and enemies in the game, along with boss battles.

As usual with remasters, the graphics get a boost in The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PS5. It will have native 4K in fidelity mode, and 1440p upscaled to 4K in performance mode. It also includes an unlocked framerate option when played on TVs that support VRR.

You can play through some of the early-development levels that were left on the cutting room floor of the original game. These include Sewers, Jackson Party, and Boar Hunt. There’s also a developer commentary track you can listen to while you play, a guitar free play mode that includes additional instruments, and a speedrun mode. Also included is full DualSense controller integration, with haptics and adaptive trigger support.

So yeah, it’s a lot. And you’ll likely have plenty of time to play it before the HBO show catches up to the content, seeing as The Last of Us season 2 is expected in 2025. If you haven’t checked out the first season yet, see our Last of Us season 1 review to see if it’s any good (it is).
