The Finals Recent Cheater Problem Should Be Over Soon, Dev Assures

The Finals developer Embark Studios has assured fans its recent problem with cheaters will be over soon.

As reported by MP1st, Embark explained why its hit shooter The Finals has been plagued with cheaters over the last few days on Discord, saying it was caused by a technical error on its end that stopped it banning those who break the rules.

“Over the past few days, we’ve had a technical issue that prevented us from banning cheaters efficiently,” Embark said in the message.

“We’re now nearing a solution to this bug, and we’re already begun re-upping our anti-cheat measures again. Thanks for your patience as we continue to sort through issues. Keeping the game a smooth, safe, and fair space for players is our biggest priority.”

The Finals is a free-to-play shooter with a game show theme. “Contestants plug in to a virtual world and join teams in escalating tournaments,” its synopsis reads. “Fight alongside your teammates in virtual arenas that you can alter, exploit, and even destroy.”

It proved incredibly popular even before launch, with its beta rocketing to more than 267,000 concurrent players on Steam in November 2023, and its full release hitting 200,000 concurrents after just 12 hours.

Not everything has gone down well with fans though, as Embark was criticised for using AI voiceovers in The Finals by myriad voice actors and even other developers. Embark told IGN that “making games without actors isn’t an end goal” and claimed it uses a mix of both recorded audio voices and audio generated via AI text to speech tools for its games.

In our 8/10 review, IGN said: “The Finals is a fresh and exciting take on team based PvP shooters, featuring some of the best environmental destruction in any FPS.”
