The Cooper Rush-Dak Prescott discourse from weeks past looks totally ridiculous now

The Cooper Rush-Dak Prescott discourse from weeks past looks totally ridiculous now

These statistics show that the Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott vs. Cooper Rush debate was a complete waste of time.

The Dallas Cowboys‘ 2022 season got off to a disastrous start after quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a fractured right thumb. That forced the Cowboys to start backup Cooper Rush instead of looking for outside help, and he did just enough to help the team win the next four of their five games. Then, Prescott returned to face the Detroit Lions in Week 7, and the offense is running on all cylinders.

Remember when Prescott was out injured, there was debate that Rush should still start for the Cowboys?

Well, these latest statistics, courtesy of Bob Sturm of The Athletic, show just how much better the offense has been with Prescott starting over Rush.

Statistics show that Cowboys way more efficient with Dak Prescott than with Cooper Rush

So much for the “quarterback controversy.”

Prescott did have his ups and downs in his return. His first start back from injury against the Lions wasn’t anything to write home about. Then, in Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers, he threw two interceptions in the 31-28 overtime loss. But, he had a solid game against the Chicago Bears in Week 9, and a great showing against the Vikings. That latter game against Minnesota showed just how dangerous the Cowboys offense can be at full strength.

Since his return, Prescott completed 89-of-103 pass attempts for 998 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions in four starts.

As for Rush, he completed 83-of-143 pass attempts for 956 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions in his five starts.

The Cowboys offense is doing pretty well based on the statistics. Prescott is back, the passing game is doing well, and Dallas may have found themselves their next star in running back Tony Pollard. Add that to a stacked defense, and it’s why the team can be considered favorites to make the Super Bowl out of the NFC.
