The 10 Coolest Games We Saw During the MIX Next Showcase 2023

The MIX Next Showcase has returned for 2023 and featured a ton of games set to be released this year and beyond. While many of the games looked great, we wanted to highlight 10 of the coolest games we saw during the show. From brand new Rugrats and G.I. Joe games to a wholesome game about animals playing soccer to one about dungeon crawling and running a restaurant and more, there was seemingly something for everyone.

You can check out our thoughts on those 10 games below, and head even further down to see all the rest of the games featured in this latest MIX Next Showcase and most of their accompanying trailers!

Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland

Nickelodeon’s Rugrats are back in an “all-new old-school adventure” that stars Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil. The action unfolds as a 2D platformer in the style of an NES game, but there is also an option to play in an HD mode that more matches the classic cartoon.

The game tells a story of the babies seeing a commercial for a new Reptar video game and then using their imagination to jump in one. Each baby has a different stat for Jump and Lift, and the trailer shows a ton of cameos from the show, including Tommy’s dad Stu and his grandpa Lou.

Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland, which will also feature 2-player co-op, will be released on PC and consoles in 2024.

G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra

G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra is an upcoming side-scrolling beat ’em up starring such “real American heroes” as Duke, Snake Eyes, Roadblock, Scarlett, and more. G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra isn’t set to be released until 2024, but we encourage everyone to check out the trailer for the game as it features an animated intro that will undoubtedly make any G.I. Joe fan smile from ear to ear.

Cuisineer

Cuisineer is a lot like Moonlighter, except instead of running a shop alongside dungeon crawling to get resources to help you do so, you are a chef running a restaurant. This means you will dive deep into dungeons to acquire the finiest ingredients that you will then take back to your restaurant to create meals that will feed your town.

It’s made all the better that it’s all wrapped in a beautiful world filled with anthropomorphic animals, people with animal-like features, and delicious looking food from all over the world. Oh, and you get to fight Artillery Shrimp and the Great Ghost Pepper. How could that not catch our attention?

The adorable-looking Cuisineer will be released on November 9, 2023.

Paleo Pines

Paleo Pines is a “cozy dino ranching game” that looks to be a joy to just explore and spend some time in. Players will be living alongside majestic dinosaurs and will use their help in building out their farm and creating a dino sanctuary that can draw in all types of these ancient creatures. Players will also be able to go out and adventure in its world, befriending dinos along the way, helping others who need it, and discovering secrets that have been hidden for years.

Paleo Pines will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on September 26, 2023.

Button City Soccer Days

Button City Soccer Days is a wholesome-looking game that stars adorable animals playing soccer and trying to live their best lives. Your performance on the soccer field will help craft the story being told, but there is so much more to do outside the pitch as well. You can choose to focus on training to improve your skils or simply ignore all that and enjoy your social life.

Button City Soccer Days, which also support multiplayer, will be released on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam in the future.

Ebenezer and the Invisible World

You may have heard the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge time and time again, but you’ve probably not experienced it as a Metroidvania that has you embarking on an adventure to help the ghosts and save the people of London. The ghosts will gift Ebenezer abilities that he can use in and outside of combat, and players will learn more of the story of this world and the “dark secrets of the Malthus family.”

Ebenezer and the Invisible World will be released on November 3, 2023, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam.

Moonstone Island

Moonstone Island is a creature-collecting life-sim that promises to have over 100 islands that players can explore. It features beautiful art and a card-based battle system that will test your might and strategic thinking. Along the way, players will be able to build out their farm, build relationships with townsfolk, and so much more.

Moonstone Island will be released on PC on September 20, 2023.

Geo Mythica

Geo Mythica is an 8-bit style JRPG that features a mix between “real-time action and strategic commands” via battles that you can play out as they happen or freeze to get a tactical overview of. While it may look like an RPG from the NES days, it feature some quality of life features that can help players of all skill levels enjoy the experience, including no penalty for dying, the ability to freely respec your characters, and more. You can also ride a triceratops, and who among us hasn’t wanted to do that?

Unawake

Unawake is an upcoming Unreal Engine 5 game that pits players in the middle of a war between Heaven and Hell. The fate of humanity is at stake, and you as the player will need to do all you can to turn the tides of battle in this devilishly fast first-person melee combat game.

The story takes place over billions of years and the game offers a ton of freedom in combat via skills, weapons, and much more.

Vivaland

Vivaland is a game made just for those who love life simulation games like The Sims. While you can play solo, what sets this game apart is that you can play with up to seven other friends and build a home together. Think of it as the Google Docs of house building, as everything happens in real time and allows collaboration on new level.

Players will also be able to create relationships, cause some drama, and even “break a few hearts” as they visit each other’s houses and create the online neighborhood of their dreams.
