Vivo S Flip, Vivo V Flip Could Be in the Works; EUIPO Trademark Filings Suggest

Vivo X Flip powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC debuted in China in April this year alongside the Vivo X Fold 2. Now, the Chinese smartphone brand is reportedly considering adding new clamshell foldable smartphones to its portfolio. Ahead of any official confirmation, two handsets named Vivo V Flip and Vivo S Flip have been spotted on the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) website. The upcoming handsets could be a direct competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, it is unclear whether the foldables will even debut this year.

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has applied for a trademark on Vivo S Flip and Vivo V Flip monikers at the EUIPO. As the names make abundantly clear, the company is working on new clamshell foldable smartphones. The applications were filed on August 8 with filing numbers 018911298 (Vivo S Flip) and 018911204 (Vivo V Flip). At this point, there is no other information available about the flip phones and it is unclear if Vivo S Flip and Vivo V Flip will be the name for the handsets when they go official.

The trademarks were spotted by different media outlets and independently verified by Gadgets 360. The Vivo S Flip and Vivo V Flip are expected to go up directly against the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, Oppo Find N2 Flip, and the recently launched Tecno Phantom V Flip 5G.

Vivo X Flip was introduced in April as the company’s first attempt at a clamshell foldable. It is currently available for purchase in the Chinese market with a starting price tag of CNY 5,999 (roughly Rs. 71,600) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage model.

The Vivo X Flip has a 6.74-inch full HD+ (1,080×2,520) AMOLED inner display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It features a 3-inch AMOLED screen outside with a resolution of 682 x 422 pixels. The handset runs on a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS3.1 internal storage. It has a dual rear camera unit, comprising a 50-megapixel primary lens and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens. At the front, there is a 32-megapixel selfie camera. It is backed by a 4,400mAh battery with 44W fast charging support.

The Vivo X90 Pro has finally made its debut in India, but is the company’s flagship smartphone for 2023 equipped with enough upgrades over its predecessor? The Vivo X Flip is said to be a clamshell-style foldable phone, which is expected to launch soon. The company has not confirmed any details about the same. However, a new leak has revealed some key specifications about the upcoming Vivo foldable phone.

According to a new leak shared by tipster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming Vivo X Flip will have the same display size as the Oppo Find N2 Flip. The tipster stated that Vivo will launch the X Flip with a tall 6.8-inch OLED display, which will have a full-HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels. The screen will refresh at up to 120Hz and offer a 21:9 aspect ratio.

The hole-punch cutout will be at the top centre for the front camera. On the outside, there will be a square-shaped cover display but the screen size remains unknown. There will be a circular camera module at the top left corner of the phone when it is unfolded. The Vivo X Flip will have a dual-camera setup. It will feature a 50-megapixel Sony IMX866 primary camera and a 12-megapixel Sony IMX663 ultra-wide camera sensor.

The tipster also revealed that Vivo will launch its first clamshell-style foldable phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. The phone will launch with up to 12GB of RAM and have 128GB of storage in the base model.

The device will also feature a 4400mAh battery and offer support for 44W fast charging out of the box. For biometric authentication, the Vivo X Flip will have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Vivo X Flip Leaked Mockup Reveals Familiar Design Along With Display Details

Vivo X90 series is expected to make its way to the global markets on January 31. As Vivo prepares for the launch, more details about its leaked foldable smartphone have surfaced online. While the Vivo X Fold, which was recently upgraded to the Vivo X Fold+, has yet to see a global launch, there’s more news about another foldable device with a smaller clamshell form factor. Called the Vivo X Flip, the device will be the second model with a different foldable form factor to be added to Vivo’s lineup of premium devices. A leaked mockup of the device has revealed both its front and rear design along with more details about its displays. There’s also an interesting bit of information about its cameras.

The freshly leaked mockup comes from a Weibo post and was first spotted by Playfuldroid. It reveals the front and rear design of the unreleased Vivo X Flip in its entirety. Compared to the previous leak, which showed only the top half of the device, the new mockup shows the number of cameras, and the placement of the volume rocker and the power button. The design aligns well with the previous leak showcasing the horizontally-placed outer display on the top half of the clamshell, which also houses two rear-facing cameras on the outside and a hole-punch selfie camera on the inner folding display. Also visible at the bottom are the cutouts for the USB port and the speaker.

As indicated in the post, the inner display is 1,080 pixels wide (when held vertically), while the outer panel is 682 pixels across. Another interesting bit which was visible in a previous artist’s render of the leaked mockup is the Zeiss branding. Vivo has worked with Zeiss on all of its recently launched premium flagships. The branding shown in the leak could hint at better quality optics or camera performance, which is hard to find on slim clamshell foldables.

The recently announced Oppo Find N2 Flip also features a larger outer display. It makes better sense to offer a bigger outer display as this has been a pain point with Samsung‘s Galaxy Z Flip series since launch. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 featured a similar smaller display, which was only good for viewing notifications and came of little practical use; as most actions required opening the main display, according to our review.

Previously leaked details of the Vivo X Flip have revealed that the device will offer a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, which is also present in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. More recently leaked renders revealed the horizontally-placed out display. As always, the details have been revealed from an unknown source, so we advise our readers to take the above information with a pinch of salt.
