X Restores Access After Thousands of Users Report App, Website Not Working [Updated]

X — the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter — appears to be working again, after thousands of users reported they were unable to access the service on Thursday. At around 11am, users took to a downtime tracking website to state that the service was not accessible, while other users reported that they couldn’t see posts on the platform. Gadgets 360 staffers were unable to view any posts on X when attempting to visit the microblogging platform’s web interface and mobile apps.

Update: X appears to be functioning normally again, with posts displaying on all feeds at around 12:10pm, nearly an hour after users reported that the service was inaccessible.

Downtime tracking service Downdetector had over 67,000 reports from users who said that X was not accessible on Thursday, while the Indian version of the website had over 4,800 reports with the same complaint. It is worth noting that at the time of publishing, Twitter’s API Status page shows “All Systems Operational”.

X users are seeing empty feeds at the moment

Some parts of X appear to be working normally on the site, such as the Trending topics section that shows hashtags that are currently trending in the same region as the user. However, clicking on these trending topics does not show any posts, and the feed appears empty, just like the main timeline that loads when you log in to X.

Visiting the Lists section also displays the names of various lists but clicking on them displays the message ” Waiting for posts. Posts from people in this List will show up here.” — the site is currently unable to display posts from any users, including the platform’s owner, Elon Musk.

Posts on individual profiles on X are also not visible

On the other hand, Spaces continue to be working as usual, and a Gadgets 360 staffer was able to join one discussion about the service being unavailable. Spaces hosts can also add and remove speakers and the feature appears to be working as intended.

Direct messages are also visible and appear to be working normally on the platform. Notifications for users’ posts also appear to be working normally, but users are not able to view the tweet when clicking on the notification, at the time of publishing this story.

Twitter Down? Several Twitter Users Report App Not Working After Queen Elizabeth’s Death: All Details

Twitter is down for several users after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday night, according to user reports on website downtime tracker Downdetector and details shared by network shutdown monitoring service Netblocks. Over two thousand users have reported they were unable to access the service on Thursday. Meanwhile, the service appears to be working normally in India, with a small spike of over 600 user reports of being unable to access Twitter. Gadgets 360 was able to access the service, and Twitter’s status page does not show any issues with the service.

On Thursday, Netblocks, a group that monitors intentional downtime of online services and the Internet, stated that Twitter was experiencing international outages for many users following the news that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away. The group also stated that the downtime was not related to any country-level disruption or filtering.

Meanwhile, according to Downdetector, a downtime tracking service for websites and apps, Over 2,000 users reported they were unable to access the Twitter app and the website on Thursday.

According to the latest available information on Downdetector.com, 78 percent of users reporting errors said they experienced issues with the app, while 15 percent of users had issues with the Twitter website.

Meanwhile, Twitter’s API status page showed no indication that the service was experiencing issues with the message “All Systems Operational” displayed on the website.

Back in August, Twitter users were unable to access the app, with over 30,000 users around the world complaining that they were unable to access the service. The service remained operational in India during that time, with only hundreds of users reporting downtime in the country, according to Downdetector.in.

Twitter Down? Company Responds as Thousands of Users Report Issues With Accessing Twitter

Twitter was down for thousands of users on Tuesday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com. The microblogging service currently has over 33,000 reports on the downtime tracker, which tracks outages by collating status reports from a number of sources, showed more than 15,000 outage reports. Meanwhile, the service appears to be working normally in India, with a small spike of 500 user reports of being unable to access Twitter. Gadgets 360 was able to access the service, and Twitter’s status page does not show any issues with the service.

According to Downdetector.com, there were 33,184 user reports of Twitter downtime at 11:38pm IST on Tuesday. On the other hand, there were 520 user reports on Downdetector.in around the same time. At the time of filing this report, Twitter’s status page showed that all systems were operational, with no issues reported on Tuesday. The service later acknowledged that some users were unable to access their timelines, adding that it was working on a fix.

Netblocks, a group that monitors intentional downtime of online services and the Internet, stated that Twitter is experiencing international outages, but that the incident was not related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering.

Twitter last experienced downtime in July, when the service was inaccessible to thousands of users for hours. The microblogging service was operational in India at the time, but over 54,600 users around the world were unable to use Twitter, according to Downdetector.

Notorious for outages in its early years, Twitter used its popular “Fail Whale” illustration, a beluga being lifted by birds, for such incidents until in 2013 when it discontinued the logo. Services like Meta’s WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger were completely inaccessible for several users back in October last year.
