Sony Xperia 5 V Set to Launch on September 1, Reveals Announcement Teaser

Sony Xperia 5 V, said to be a successor to last year’s flagship offering Sony Xperia 5 IV, has started making a buzz a few days ago with its promo video. The company has now announced the launch date of the smartphone. After the launch of Xperia 1 V and Xperia 10 V, this will be the company’s third smartphone launch this year. Earlier report suggests that the Xperia 5 V will debut with a dual rear camera unit, while it is likely to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

The Japanese tech giant posted an announcement video on X to reveal the launch date of Xperia 5 V. As mentioned, the smartphone launch is scheduled to take place on September 1, starting 4 PM local time (12.30 PM IST). However, the company has not revealed any other specifications or details about the upcoming phone. 

According to a previous report, the smartphone could get three colour variants — black, blue, and white. It is expected to sport a dual camera unit at the back. The rear cameras on Xperia 5 V are likely to be placed vertically on the back alongside an LED flash.

The Xperia 5 V is rumoured to come with a matte finish and Sony’s branding at the back. It is expected to come equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

Earlier in May this year, Sony launched Xperia 1 V and Xperia 10 V. The Xperia 1 V debuted at a starting price of $1,399 (roughly Rs. 1,14,700) in the European market. The smartphone was launched with two colour options — Green and Black. Meanwhile, the Xperia 10 V model marked its launch at a starting price of EUR 449 (roughly Rs. 40,300), and was made available in four colour options — Black, Lavender, Sage Green, and White.

Sony Xperia Ace IV Specifications Leaked; May Feature Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC: Details

The Sony Xperia Ace IV is reportedly expected to launch as the company’s new Ace series compact smartphone. The handset is said to be a follow-up to the Sony Xperia Ace III, which was released in May this year. The Japanese smartphone maker’s latest entrant to the Ace series has been tipped in regards to the smartphone’s specifications by the Chinese blog Sumaho Digest. According to the tip, the Xperia Ace IV will also be a compact device, similar to its predecessor, and may sport a 5.5-inch OLED display while being powered by the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC.

Xperia Ace IV, said to be a successor to Sony Xperia Ace III, is being tipped to feature a 5.5-inch OLED display that will support a 1080×2520 pixel resolution. The display panel of the smartphone may have an aspect ratio of 21:9, according to the report. Under the hood, the device may come equipped with the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC which could be paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, according to the reported leak.

Moreover, the smartphone may be backed by a 4,500mAh battery which supports 18W fast charging, added the report. The Sony Xperia Ace IV is also expected to feature a microSD slot and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The latest Ace series entry from Sony is expected to launch sometime in 2023. The previous three smartphone launches in the Ace series from the Japanese smartphone maker underwent a limited release that saw them only being made available in the Japanese market. However, according to the latest leak, the upcoming Sony Xperia Ace IV could be introduced in more markets apart from Japan.

Pricing details and render looks of the Sony Xperia Ace IV, however, haven’t been subjected to any leaks, as of yet. The Japanese smartphone maker has also not confirmed any details on specifications or the expected launch timeline of its purported latest Ace series entrant.

Sony Xperia 1 IV Launch Expected at Company’s May 11 Smartphone Event

Sony has teased the arrival of its next-generation lineup of Xperia smartphones. Sony Xperia will host a virtual event through its official YouTube page to unveil new smartphones on May 11. It has not mentioned the names or revealed the designs of any of the upcoming smartphones that may be a part of this event. However, the emphasis on ‘One’ throughout the teaser video could mean that the Xperia 1 IV (mark four) could be unveiled during this event.

As we mentioned earlier Sony Xperia will host the event on May 11 at 4pm JST (12:30pm IST). It posted a teaser video on its official YouTube page hinting at the arrival of new Xperia smartphones. The company has not officially revealed any other information relating to any of the upcoming handsets.

However, there have been some rumours and leaks in recent months hinting at the mark-four generation of Xperia smartphones. Notable tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer aka OnLeaks recently teamed up with GizNext to release concept renders of the Sony Xperia 1 IV. It has been depicted to sport a similar design to its predecessor the Xperia 1 III. This smartphone could sport a 6.5-inch flat display with symmetrical top and bottom bezels. The USB Type-C port is expected to be placed at the bottom and the 3.5mm audio jack fitted at the top. Its triple rear camera setup might feature a telescopic sensor.

Hemmerstoffer has also shared concept renders for the Sony Xperia 10 IV. This rumoured smartphone has been depicted to sport a 6-inch flat OLED display. It is supposed to feature a triple rear camera setup with LED flash. The smartphone could have flat sides and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Xperia 10 IV might be equipped with stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack.
