Redmi K60, Redmi K60 Pro Teardown Video Shows Similar Internals

Redmi K60 and Redmi K60 Pro were launched in the Chinese market in the last week of December. Most recently, the new phones have been put through extensive teardowns to reveal their internals and showcase their repairability. The teardown video of the Redmi K60 and Redmi K60 Pro released by WekiHome shows similarities and differences in their internals. Both models feature a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The Redmi K60 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, while the vanilla model has Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC under the hood.

The nine-minute teardown video by the YouTube channel WekiHome starts by opening the dual-SIM (nano) tray of the Redmi K60 and Redmi K60 Pro. The trays are placed at the bottom of the two handsets. Once the rear glass covering is removed, it shows a black frame along with a wireless charging coil.

Rear camera positions are different in the two devices. The Redmi K60 Pro has a larger sensor than the Redmi K60. The teardown video shows a plastic bracket around the vanilla model for adjusting the dimensions. The flash cable is glued on the cover, while the LED lamp bead and a rear ambient light sensor are seen integrated on the cable. They have a similar motherboard layout as well.

The YouTuber finds that both motherboards use a single-layer design for heat dissipation. Apart from the camera, the Redmi K60 series smartphones differ in chipset and memory features. The Redmi K60 Pro is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, coupled with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The vanilla model has Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 under the hood, alongside LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

Disassembling the sub-board part shows that the two handsets have similar matching earpiece configurations with two separate suppliers. Both batteries have single-cell designs. The Redmi K60 Pro has a 5,000mAh battery with support for 120W wired fast charging, while Redmi K60 has a slightly larger 5,500mAh battery with support for 67W wired fast charging.

Further, the tear-down video exposes the screen. The Youtuber scratches the glue around the screen to detach it from the body. Both Redmi K60 and Redmi K60 Pro pack CSOT-made screens and C6 luminescent material, while the back of the screen has copper foil coating. The tearing of two pieces of the colling film reveals a VC chamber area of 5000mm square. The vapour chambers seem a bit different in colour with the Redmi K60 Pro having a yellowish finish.

The Youtuber states that the overall power consumption of the Redmi K60 Pro will be lower. However, he adds that the temperature of the devices will be similar.

Redmi K60 series launched in China a few weeks back in December, 2022. Comprising three models — the vanilla Redmi K60, the Redmi K60 Pro, and the Redmi K60E — the lineup is expected to arrive in India soon. While the exact launch date in India is yet to be announced, Xiaomi has confirmed its expected price range for the series in India. The smartphones are expected to debut here at the price of over Rs. 30,000. The Redmi K60 and Redmi K60 Pro are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, respectively, whereas the Redmi K60E ships with a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset.

Xiaomi, today at a launch event for the Redmi Note 12 series smartphones, confirmed the price range of the upcoming Redmi K60 series in India. In its presentation, the company revealed that the Redmi K60 series, along with the other premium Xiaomi smartphones, will be priced above Rs 30,000 here. The Redmi K60, Redmi K60 Pro, and Redmi K60E launched in China at a starting price of CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 30,000), CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs. 40,000) and CNY 2,199 (roughly Rs. 26,000), respectively.

The Redmi K60 series’ top of the line handset Redmi K60 Pro comes with a 6.67-inch 2K (1,440×3,200 pixels) AMOLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and up to 480Hz touch sampling rate. It packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. For the optics it ships with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX800 main sensor with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. For selfies, the phone has a 16-megapixel front camera.

Similar to the Pro version, Redmi K60, too, features a 6.67-inch 2K (1,440×3,200 pixels) AMOLED display. It has most of the features same as Redmi K60 Pro, except for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and a triple rear camera setup led by 64-megapixel primary lens. Also, the pro version carries a 5,000mAh battery with support for 120W wired fast charging and 30W wireless fast charging, whereas Redmi K60 has a 5,500mAh battery with support for 67W wired fast charging.

Meanwhile, the Redmi K60E is the least expensive of the three phones in this lineup and hence comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 SoC.

Redmi K60 Series Leak Hints at Redmi K60, K60 Pro, K60E Variants; May Launch in December

Redmi K60 series, the expected successor to the company’s Redmi K50 lineup, has been the subject of several leaks and rumours ahead of its launch in China. The latest leaks have placed the launch timeline for the upcoming phones towards the end of the month. Details shared on the Chinese social networking website Weibo suggest that the Redmi K60 series will release in China later in December. This comes after the Redmi K60 series was rumoured to launch in January next year. The upcoming series is expected to comprise the Redmi K60, the Redmi K60 Pro, and the Redmi K60E.

According to a Weibo post by reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, the Redmi K60 series could be days away from launch and is set to debut in China later in December. The post said that the Redmi K60 series is expected to be the “performance king” across all three price segments.

The latest leak brings up the earlier rumoured launch timeline of January, right before the Chinese New Year. Previous reports stated that Redmi had adjusted the release window for January owing to delays in the Xiaomi 13 series announcement.

Earlier leaks about the specifications for the upcoming phones have provided an idea about what expect from the Redmi K60 series. According to MIUI Polska writer Kacper Skrzypek, the Redmi K60, the K60 Pro, and the K60E are expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and an unnamed MediaTek SoC, respectively. The Redmi K60E, however, was later spotted on Geekbench, along with a Snapdragon 870 SoC.

The vanilla Redmi K60 is said to feature a 6.67-inch Quad HD+ display, with 120Hz refresh rate. The K60 is also tipped to sport a triple rear camera setup, including a 64-megapixel main sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro lens.

The Redmi K60 was also spotted on China’s 3C certification website, which hinted at the handset supporting 67W fast charging.
