Motorola Edge 50 Ultra India Launch Confirmed; to Offer Wood Textured Rear Panel

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra was introduced globally in April this year alongside the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, which is currently available in India. Now, the top-of-the-line Ultra version has been teased to launch soon in the country. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra features a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC and a 4,500mAh battery with both wired and wireless fast charging support. Notably, another phone in the Motorola Edge 50 lineup, namely the Motorola Edge 50 Pro was launched in India in April.

The Motorola India handle on X (formerly Twitter) shared a teaser of a smartphone with the “coming soon” tag. The image only shows a hollowed-out back panel of the upcoming handset. The wooden textured rear panel and the camera unit placements confirm that it is the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, particularly its Nordic Wood variant. This is backed by the text in the image which reads, “‘Wood’ you believe it?”

The upcoming Indian variant of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is expected to share similar specifications as its global counterpart.

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra sports a 6.7-inch 144Hz full-HD+ pOLED screen. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 onboard storage and ships with Android 14-based Hello UI.

For optics, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is equipped with a triple rear camera unit that includes a 50-megapixel primary rear sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) support, another 50-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 64-megapixel telephoto shooter with up to 3x optical zoom. The front camera houses a 50-megapixel sensor.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra packs a 4,500mAh battery with support for 125W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. Connectivity options include dual 5G, 4G, Wi-Fi, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou, NavIC, NFC, Bluetooth 5.4, and a USB Type-C port. It carries an in-display fingerprint sensor for security and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra and Edge 50 Fusion were launched globally on Tuesday. The handsets are equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and Pantone-validated displays and cameras. The Ultra model is equipped with a triple rear camera unit, while the Fusion model carries two rear cameras. These models were launched alongside the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, a smartphone that was recently introduced in India. The Edge 50 Pro, powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC, carrying a 50-megapixel triple rear camera unit and a 68W charger in the box is priced at Rs. 31,999 for the 8GB + 256GB option in India.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra price starts at EUR 999 (roughly Rs. 88,900), while the Edge 50 Fusion is priced at EUR 399 (roughly Rs. 35,900). The handsets will go on sale in select markets in Asia, Europe, Latin America and Oceania region over the coming few weeks. Motorola is yet to announce plans to launch these two handsets in India.

The top-of-the-line Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is offered in Forest Grey and Peach Fuzz shades with a vegan leather finish and a third Nordic Wood pattern. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, on the other hand, is available in Hot Pink and Marshmallow Blue colourways which come with vegan leather backs and another Forest Blue option which has a Poly(methyl methacrylate) — or PMMA — finish.

Equipped with a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,220 x 2,712 pixels) pOLED display, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra comes with a 144Hz refresh rate, 2,500 nits of peak brightness level and 93.8 percent screen-to-body ratio. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 onboard storage. It also ships with Android 14-based Hello UI.

For optics, the Edge 50 Ultra includes a 50-megapixel primary rear sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) support, a 50-megapixel secondary sensor paired with an ultra-wide-angle lens and a 64-megapixel telephoto shooter with up to 3x optical zoom. The front camera is equipped with a 50-megapixel sensor. 

Motorola packs a 4,500mAh battery in the Edge 50 Ultra model with support for 125W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion sports a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,080 x 2,400 pixels) pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, 1,600 nits of peak brightness and 92 percent screen-to-body ratio. The phone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 2.2 inbuilt storage. This model also runs Motorola’s new Android 14-based Hello UI out-of-the-box.

In the camera department, the Edge 50 Fusion features a 50-megapixel primary rear sensor and a 13-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens. The front camera houses a 32-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calls. 

The Edge 50 Fusion is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with 68W wired fast charging support. The handset also supports 5G, 4G, Wi-Fi, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou, QZSS, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB Type-C connectivity. It is equipped with a similar biometric sensor and IP rating as the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra. The phone measures 161.9mm x 73.1mm x 7.9mm in size and weighs 174.9g.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra Confirmed to Get Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC in a Cryptic Teaser

Motorola has announced an event for April 16 to reveal the Edge 50 family. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, Edge 50 Fusion, and Edge 50 Pro are expected to go official in global markets at the event. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro with Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC was launched in India earlier this month. The Chinese electronics brand has now shared a teaser to offer hints about the chipset on the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra without confirming the moniker of the phone. The upcoming handset is expected to come with upgrades over the Motorola Edge 30 ultra.

The company has officially teased the Motorola Edge 50 series via an X post. As per the post, Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC will power an Edge series handset. While Motorola didn’t reveal the exact moniker of the handset, it is quite clear that the Ultra variant will carry this SoC. Past leaks and a recent Geekbench benchmark listing have also indicated that the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra runs on the same Snapdragon 8 series chipset.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra surfaced on Geekbench earlier this week with an impressive single-core CPU score of 1,947 and a multi-core score of 5,149. The listing showed a high-performance core with a maximum clock speed of 3.01GHz, four cores capped at 2.80GHz and three cores capped at 2.02GHz. These CPU speeds are associated with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC. The listing suggested 12GB of RAM and Android 14 operating system on the device.

As per past leaks, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra will carry a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor. The handset is said to carry a 6.7-inch OLED display with 165Hz refresh rate.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is anticipated to be the most premium handset in the upcoming Edge 50 series. It could debut in the US with Motorola Edge+ 2024 or Edge Ultra 2024 moniker and cost around $999 (roughly Rs. 83,000).

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra Design Renders, Colour Options, Key Specifications Surface Online

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra will likely be available in the markets soon. It is expected to launch alongside other Motorola Edge 50 series models. Motorola Edge 50 Pro is already confirmed to launch in India on April 3. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion also recently surfaced online. Now, a report claims that all three purported models are likely to be unveiled together globally. The report shared design renders of the rumoured Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, its colour options, and some key features.

According to an Android Headlines report, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is said to launch in three colours – Beige, Black, and Peach Fuzz. The report also shared the design renders of the model in these colourways. It added that in select markets the phone will launch with the moniker Moto X50 Ultra. Notably, the Moto X50 Ultra has officially been teased in China and is expected to launch soon.

The leaked design renders of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra show the date ‘April 3’ on the lock screen. An earlier leak regarding the Edge 50 Pro model also showed the same date, suggesting that is the likely launch date. Soon after, the company scheduled the India launch of the Motorola Edge 50 Pro for April 3. The report suggests that the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is likely to launch alongside the Pro model, and the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion may also tag along.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra appears similar to the Motorola Edge 50 Pro in the leaked renders. The black and peach variants of the model are seen with a faux leather back panel, with the raised rectangular rear camera module carrying a glossy finish. The beige option, on the other hand, appears with a textured rear panel, with the rear camera bump seamlessly rising, instead of a separate island.

At the back, the rear camera island of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra placed in the top left corner of the back panel is seen to house three camera sensors and a pill shaped LED flash. The report suggests that the camera setup will include 50-megapixel sensors including a 75mm periscope lens that is said to offer 5x optical zoom. It is also expected to come with support for laser autofocus.

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is also tipped to feature a curved OLED display with a centred hole-punch slot at the top to house the front camera sensor. The power button and the two separate volume buttons are seen on the right edge, while the bottom edge appears to have the SIM tray, a USB Type-C port, a mic, and the speakers.

Out-of-the-box the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is expected to boot Android 14-based Hello UI. This is Motorola’s new user interface and is likely to come with three years of OS upgrades. The report adds that the model could be priced at around $999 (roughly Rs. 83,300).

Motorola Teases Upcoming Smartphone With Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC, Curved Display

Motorola has announced that it will launch a new smartphone in India soon. The Lenovo-owned smartphone maker has begun to tease some of the specifications of its next smartphone, with a few days to go before the phone makes its debut in the country. While Motorola is yet to officially reveal the name of the upcoming smartphone or a launch date, the specifications revealed by the company suggest that it will be a mid-range smartphone — like the purported Motorola Edge 50 Fusion.

In the series of posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) Motorola has revealed that its next smartphone will be equipped with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip. This is a mobile processor that is found on mid-range handsets, which means the upcoming Motorola phone could be launched in the same segment.

The company has also included an image of a rectangular object with a quick charging animation — this suggests that Motorola’s yet-to-be-announced handset could offer support for fast wired charging or wireless charging. The third object shown in the teaser appears to be a smartphone camera lens, but it is currently unclear which camera the company is referring to.

The company previously teased a smartphone with a curved display in a short video posted to X. The handset is shown with round edges on left and right sides of the screen. The rear panel is also briefly shown, with the Motorola “batwing” logo shown in a small depression on the back of the phone. The video also confirms that a Motorola Edge series phone will be launched soon.
