Instagram Might Soon Let You Share Another Users Profile on Your Story

Instagram unveiled Stories back in 2016. The feature lets users post photos and videos that vanish after 24 hours. Since its launch, this interactive feature has grown rapidly in popularity and become a game-changer for Instagram by hitting a daily user count of 500 million in 2019. Now, the Meta (formerly Facebook) owned photo and video-sharing platform is looking to introduce a new feature for Stories. Instagram might soon allow users to share another user’s Instagram profile on their Stories. The upcoming feature was first spotted by a popular developer.

Noted developer Alessandro Paluzzi (@alex193a) on X (formerly Twitter) has suggested that Instagram is working on a new feature that allows users to share other user’s profiles on their Stories. This feature is said to work similar to the existing “Add to Story” option. Users can display another profile on their Instagram Story and invite followers to visit and follow the users account or page.

The screenshot shared by Paluzzi shows that Stories will show a “View Profile” button to invite viewers to visit the mentioned profile. This feature, once it goes live, is expected to help people share profiles and assist in increasing the profile visibility and follower count of content creators and influencers. Like the photos and videos shared in Stories, the profile invites are also expected to disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on the profile grid or in the feed.

Instagram has recently added a bunch of new features. It introduced song lyrics display functionality for reels providing more options to customise Reels with favourite tunes. The platform also unveiled new Reels editing tools including cropping and rotating of individual clips.

The Meta-owned app has also expanded the Close Friends feature that allows users to share posts and reels to their main feed that will only be visible to people on the list. Meta is currently also offering a paid ad-free subscription for Instagram users in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland.

Instagram Feature to Download Publicly Posted Reels Now Available Globally

Instagram rolled out the ability to download Reels posted by public accounts earlier this year in the US. The company has now confirmed that the feature is rolling out to users globally. Until now, Instagram users could share the reels on public profiles directly to their Stories or DMs. Users can also save those Reels, which they access through the saved Reels tabs on the application. With the help of the new feature though, users worldwide will now be able to share downloaded Reels through other platforms as well.

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced through his Broadcast channel that all users can now download Reels shared by public accounts and save them directly to their camera roll. He added that any of the reels downloaded natively will feature the Instagram handle of the creator as watermark. Since the feature is still rolling out to all users, it may take a while to reflect on your account.

Notably, even public accounts have the ability to turn off the Reels download feature, in which case, users will not be able to save Reels from those accounts to their galleries. Users can still Save those Reels for viewing later. You can tap the three dots and Save the concerned Reel and access it through the Saved tab.

If, however, the ability to download Reels is enabled in a public account, you can save the videos to your camera roll by tapping the Share button with the paper airplane icon on the desired Reel and then tapping on the Download option. On the other hand, if you have a public account, you can choose to turn off the default Download option for your Reels by going to Profile > Settings and Privacy > Sharing and Remixes > Downloading your Reels and then toggle off the download button.

Instagram users can, however, download their own Reels without a watermark from saved drafts and can also share those to their Stories or over Instagram DMs. To share Reels posted by public profiles via other social media apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, etc., users previously had to copy and paste links to the relevant chats. Now, with the new update, Instagram Reels that are saved to camera rolls can be shared via other social media apps as a video file directly, without having to copy the URL.

Instagram Rolling Out Stories-Like Song Lyrics Feature to Reels

Instagram, the Meta-owned social media platform, is rolling out a feature that allows users to add song lyrics to their Reels, just like on Instagram Stories. This comes after Instagram was said to be testing out a few new features over the past few weeks. Some of those features were focused on revamping how we view our feeds, and some of them were about collaborative posting. However, the new song lyrics feature introduced to Instagram Reels is a feature that is familiar to users since it has been available on Instagram Stories for a while now.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the update on his Broadcast Channel. He said that the team noticed that users were often manually adding song lyrics to their videos. In the announcement, he hoped that this feature would help users and make it easier for them to express themselves. He also added that the company is currently working on more features for Reels.

While editing an Instagram Reel, if you want to add song lyrics to the video, you have to tap on the music icon first and then select a song. Once the song (which you want to add the lyrics of) is decided, you can swipe left to add the lyrics. This works more or less like the Music feature on Instagram Stories, which has allowed us to add song lyrics (if available) to Stories for a while now.

Recently, Mosseri stated that Instagram is testing a feature that lets users invite friends to contribute to their feed posts, resulting in collaborative carousel posts. Once the invite is extended, the concerned user will be able to see an option to ‘Add to post’ to add more images.

People may soon also be able to see posts from only verified people according to another company statement. In order to improve the feature, Instagram claimed to be actively testing it and asking users for input. There are three options offered – a feed from Following, one from Favourites, and another from Meta Verified users. This may help companies and creators to become more visible.

Notably, Instagram, alongside Facebook, recently announced ad-free subscription plans in Europe. Users in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland can pay EUR 9.99 (roughly Rs. 880) per month for ad-free Web access and EUR 12.99 (roughly Rs. 1,100) per month for iOS and Android platforms without ads.
