Baltimore ice cream shop makes him a flavor

Here’s your new scoop on Lamar Jackson.

No, it’s not about his potential new contract, possible new team, or anything related to his play on the field or negotiations off of it.

It’s an actual scoop of ice cream, made to support him in search of a long-awaited new deal with the Ravens.

The Charmery, a Baltimore-based ice cream shop, has debuted a new flavor on their menu called “Pay Lamar,” which is essentially peanut butter and caramel ice cream with chocolate chips and roasted peanuts.

Think PAYDAY the candy bar — but with more of a confrontational connotation.

The Ravens placed a $32.416 million non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson earlier this week.

As a result, they’ll have until July 17 to reach a multi-year extension before that number becomes permanent for the 2023 season.

Under league rules, Jackson is free to negotiate with other teams, but his options could be thinning as the Carolina Panthers have traded up for the No. 1 overall pick and the Miami Dolphins exercised oft-injured signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa’s fifth-year option, which will pay him a fully guaranteed $23.4 million in 2024.

The Jets are looking for a quarterback, but they appear to be zeroed in on Aaron Rodgers.

The Charmery’s owner, and longtime Ravens fan, David Alima said that he and his friends “love Lamar [Jackson] and want to see him stay in Baltimore,” according to The Baltimore Banner.

“[Jackson] deserves every bit of money that he feels he deserves. Whatever he thinks he’s worth, I’m in agreement with him,” Alima added.

“I don’t proclaim to know the inside workings of the business,” continued Alima, who has owned The Charmery for over 10 years with his wife, Laura, according to the report.

“All I know is that Lamar is worth every single penny that he feels he’s deserved. That’s why I want to pay him.”

Baltimore building collapses leaves at least one dead, several injured

At least one person is dead and several others were injured after a car crashed into a building in Baltimore, Maryland, Wednesday night, resulting in a partial collapse of the structure, authorities said.

The Baltimore Police Department said a pedestrian was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital in critical condition after a car crashed into a house on East North Avenue and North Wolfe Street, Fox Baltimore reported.

Videos taken at the scene show more than 40 firefighters, emergency personnel and at least four firetrucks assisting to clear bricks and debris from the building.

At least two people are believed to be buried under the building.

The crash took place shortly before 9 p.m., according to local news outlet WBAL.

According to the report, authorities pulled two sedans — one black and one red — from the rubble at approximately 10:30 p.m. They were subsequently towed away.

Five Baltimore County Fire Department EMS Units also responded to the scene, according to the Baltimore firefighters union.

Hae Min Lee’s family to appeal ruling that freed Adnan Syed

The family of the woman whom “Serial” podcast subject Adnan Syed was convicted of killing is appealing a Maryland judge’s ruling from last week freeing him from prison.

Hae Min Lee’s relatives filed a notice of appeal of the Sept. 19 decision by Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn overturning the 2000 murder conviction of Syed, the Baltimore Sun reported, citing family lawyer Steve Kelly.

The attorney previously claimed the family wasn’t included in the decision-making process to free Syed, nor were they given sufficient opportunity to oppose the ruling. In fact, they filed a motion to postpone the hearing, but the judge denied the request, Kelly said.

Lee’s brother Young Lee filed the notice of appeal Wednesday “based on violations of his family’s right to meaningfully participate” in the hearing on the motion to vacate Syed’s conviction,” Kelly told the Sun in a statement.

“The notice of appeal is the first step in seeking the Maryland Court of Special Appeals’ review of the potential violations of Maryland’s victim’s rights statutes in connection with the hearing.”

The now-41-year-old Syed was found guilty in the 1999 strangling of ex-girlfriend Lee, 18, — but his case came into the national spotlight in 2014 after the release of Sarah Koenig’s podcast raising questions about whether he received a fair trial.

Syed — who was arrested at 17 and has spent more than two decades behind bars — has maintained his innocence from the beginning.

In vacating his conviction, Phinn found that prosecutors had failed to share evidence with Syed’s lawyers that could have aided his defense.

Syed was released to home confinement with GPS monitoring.

Prosecutors have 30 days to decide whether to retry or drop the case.

Lee’s family claims they weren’t given sufficient notice of the ruling to free him and they weren’t involved in the process.

The Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office and Syed’s defense attorney carried out a year-long investigation that found new evidence, including that there were two additional suspects in Lee’s murder which prosecutors knew about and hadn’t ruled out.

One of the suspects even told Lee “he would make her disappear” but that information was never disclosed to Syed’s defense attorney, prosecutors said.

“The state no longer has confidence in the integrity of the conviction,” they said earlier this month.

Syed was released to home confinement with GPS monitoring while the state mulls whether to retry the case or dismiss the charges completely – a decision which they have 30 days to make.
