Steve Kerr identifies biggest threats for Team USA at FIBA World Cup
As Team USA prepares to embark on its quest for redemption in the FIBA World Cup, head coach Steve Kerr has pinpointed the national teams that he considers the biggest threats to the Americans’ title aspirations.
Following their disappointing seventh-place finish in the 2019 edition, the stars and stripes aim to reclaim their basketball dominance on the international stage.
During a recent interview on NBA Today, Kerr candidly discussed the formidable competitors that Team USA must face to secure success in this year’s tournament. He emphasized the quality and strength of several national teams that are eager to challenge the American squad.
“There’s a number of teams. Germany’s going to be really good this year. We just watched the highlights of Slovenia, just knowing it’s a one-and-done situation – you got to go up against Luka [Doncic]. You know you got to play well. Serbia is always good. France – tremendous program and team. And they’ve got a lot of continuity and great coaching. So all these teams are a huge threat, and we got to be ready,” Kerr stated.
Despite being currently ranked second on the FIBA rankings, Team USA will enter the World Cup with a determination to showcase their strengths and claim the coveted championship. By opting for an early roster selection and fostering team chemistry, they hope to establish a cohesive and formidable unit ready to take on any challenge that comes their way.
Team USA will begin their journey in Group C, alongside Greece, Jordan, and New Zealand.
