Following the Los Angeles Lakers’ season-opening loss against the Denver Nuggets (107-119), sports analyst Stephen A. Smith didn’t hold back his criticism of Anthony Davis’s performance, labeling it as “atrocious” on ESPN’s First Take.

Despite LeBron James leading the scoring with 21 points and Taurean Prince contributing 18 points, Davis, the Lakers’ star forward, struggled to make an impact, scoring 17 points and going 0-6 from the field in the second half.

Known for his outspoken commentary, Smith didn’t mince his words, expressing deep concern over the implications of Davis’s performance for the Lakers’ championship ambitions this season.

“Atrocious. Very concerning. Ladies and gentlemen: You just saw the reason why the Los Angeles Lakers ain’t going to win no championship this year,” he said, via ClutchPoints.

During the offseason, Davis signed a significant 3-year, $177 million extension with the Lakers and had reportedly dedicated time to refining his physical conditioning, aiming to overcome the series of injuries that have plagued him in recent seasons.
