Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 43-point performance propels Thunder over Cavaliers

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander showcased his scoring prowess with a dominant 43-point performance, guiding the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 128-120 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.

The Thunder guard’s exceptional performance, which fell just one point short of his career high, underscored his ability to excel in the mid-range and finish strongly around the basket while attempting only two 3-pointers.

In a remarkable display of offensive firepower, Gilgeous-Alexander efficiently converted 15 of 22 field goals and 12 of 13 free throws, marking the eighth instance of his career scoring at least 40 points.

Vasilije Micic, the former EuroLeague MVP and two-time champion, continued to remain on the bench as Thunder coach Mark Daigneault opted for a different lineup strategy.

Joining Gilgeous-Alexander in the scoring effort, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren contributed 15 points each, contributing to the Thunder’s strong offensive performance that propelled them to a 5-3 record for the season.

While the Cavaliers put up a strong shooting performance, with Caris LeVert scoring 29 points and Evan Mobley adding 22, Oklahoma City’s aggressive defensive play resulted in 30 points off Cleveland’s 20 turnovers, ultimately tipping the scales in the Thunder’s favor.

The Thunder’s commanding first-half performance, led by Gilgeous-Alexander’s 23 points on an impressive 10-for-11 shooting, set the tone for their substantial 70-57 lead at halftime.
