No added sense of urgency in Week 2

The New York Giants got trounced, 40-0, by the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 on Sunday Night Football. For the past few days, the fans and the media have been unpacking the loss and likely making too much of it.

The Giants themselves have unpacked the loss long ago and have moved on. That’s what star running back Saquon Barkley reiterated to reporters on Thursday.

“To be completely honest, the only time we really even reflect on that is when we’ve got to talk to you guys,” Barkley said. “I know you guys are doing your job and asking the right questions, but we’re so far gone on that. Like I said, you can’t let what happened in Week 1 affect you in Week 2. We can learn from it, but we’ve got to move on.”

The Giants are preparing for a two-week road trip, first to Arizona on Sunday and then to San Francisco on Thursday. Barkley was asked if there is a ‘heightened sense of urgency’ surrounding Sunday’s game.

“No. To be completely honest, no,” he said. “And I think that’s important. You can’t act like the sky is falling. That’s for everyone else to do that. But we’ve got to stay solid, the core’s got to stay solid within this locker room within this building. I think we did that, and like I said, hopefully, on Sunday we can go out there and show you guys.”

If the Giants fall to 0-2 to start this season, the odds of them having a winning season drops to just 14 percent and the odds of securing a postseason berth is even lower — 9.6 percent.

So, yes, there should be a heightened sense of urgency.
