New York Giants sign RB James Robinson

With Saquon Barkley’s future uncertain, the New York Giants added a little bit of insurance on Friday, signing running back James Robinson.

The 24-year-old Robinson was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Illinois State in 2020. He spent three seasons with the Jags before joining the New York Jets last season.

Robinson signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the New England Patriots during free agency but he was released on June 12.

In 39 career games (32 starts), Robinson has rushed for 2,262 yards and scored 18 touchdowns, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. He’s also caught 91 passes for an additional 617 yards and five touchdowns.

The 5-foot-9, 219-pound Robinson had his best season as a rookie, gaining 1,414 yards from scrimmage and scoring 10 total touchdowns. He was named to the PWFA All-Rookie Team.

Robinson earned a 59.7 Pro Football Focus grade in 2022. His best season came as a rookie, earning a PFF grade of 72.9.

With the Giants, Robinson joins a stable of running backs that includes Matt Breida, rookie Eric Gray, Gary Brightwell and Jashaun Corbin.
