Manchester United have announced that the women’s side is to travel to Malta for a winter training camp.

The week long camp will take place in January 2023 and will culminate in the Reds playing a friendly against Maltese First Division champions Birkirkara FC.

The club see the trip “as an opportunity to further enhance the side’s team spirit ahead of a busy second half of the campaign, while enjoying Malta’s cultural experience.”

The game will take place at Hibernians stadium on 6th January.

Complimentary tickets to the match will be given away by the club and Manchester United’s Official Destination Partner, Visit Malta.

Tickets will be issued at random via a ballot, with applicants notified via email.

Fans can enter the ballot until the 30th December.

Speaking of the trip, Marc Skinner said, “We have a wonderful partnership with the club’s Official Destination Partner, Visit Malta and the opportunity to get our girls back together after the Christmas break at Malta’s first-class facilities, to set the objectives ahead of a big second half of the season, is an excellent one for us.”

He continued, “The players can expect plenty of hard work on the grass, while enjoying the world-renowned hospitality of the people of Malta, also home to one of our oldest Official Supporters’ Clubs in the world.”

“A privilege of being at Manchester United is having fans all over the world and we cannot wait to spend some time with them and remind ourselves what it is to play for this wonderful football club,” he concluded.

Manchester United’s Head of Women’s Football, Polly Bancroft, also commented on the opportunity saying, “This winter training camp will be a great opportunity for us to build on the success we have already achieved so far this season, allowing us to train within a different climate and culture, while experiencing the warmth of our Maltese Official Supporters’ Club.”

“Playing local side Birkirkara FC will allow our squad to compete against a diverse opponent, away from their usual Carrington environment.”

United’s first competitive game after the holidays is on January 15th.
