Manchester United set to release promising academy star Ethan Galbraith – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have to decide the futures of a lot of their academy stars at the end of the season. While a few have remained and played for the reserve team, plenty have gone out on loan.

Seeing how Erik ten Hag has handed a pathway to Alejandro Garnacho while also name-checking Kobbie Mainoo, it is clear to see that an academy youngster can make the first-team if he is good enough irrespective of his age.

There is genuine excitement to see how Amad Diallo does after impressing out on loan at Sunderland while another on-loan star is likely to bid farewell at the end of the season.

Galbraith set to depart

Ethan Galbraith, currently out on loan at Salford City in League Two, is expected to depart at the end of the season with his contract expiring and the club not offering him an extension.

As per Manchester World, “Manchester United midfielder Ethan Galbraith is set to leave the club this summer.

“Galbraith’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of June and United have the option to extend his current deal by an additional 12 months.

“However, the club have decided against this and feel there is little chance of recouping a significant fee on Galbraith, whose wages would also increase with an extension.”

The Northern Ireland international has received plenty of interest from Championship clubs with the likes of Stoke City and Sunderland all interested.

The most surprising team to be linked with the 21-year-old is top-four rivals Newcastle United who are ideally looking to loan him out should they bring him in.

Galbraith has played 38 times for Salford this season in all competitions and scored four goals while assisting three more. He has shown his versatility by playing all across the midfield as well as a full-back.

The midfielder had joined United when he was 15 and progressed through the ranks and managed to make his senior debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, coming off the bench in a 2-1 Europa League loss to Astana in back November 2019.

Galbraith was highly-rated at Carrington

He was also part of United’s pre-season squad back in 2021 and was highly-rated among United’s coaches. Former coach Neil Wood had described him as being “technically gifted” with the ability to “pick a pass”.

His national team manager even went on to describe him as “Northern Ireland’s Iniesta or Xavi”.

However, it seems Mainoo, Zidane Iqbal and on-loan stars Hannibal Mejbri and Charlie Savage are ahead of him in the pecking order of young midfielders.

With Ten Hag to dip into the market in the summer, it is best for Galbraith to try and forge his professional career somewhere else.
