Manchester United set to battle Tottenham and Chelsea for Brentford’s David Raya – Man United News And Transfer News
Manchester United are interested in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
United’s interest in Raya comes amidst doubts over David de Gea‘s suitability for an Erik ten Hag system.
While De Gea has displayed improvement in recent games, there are still limitations to his game, hence United’s search for another shot-stopper.
De Gea is currently locked in negotiations with the Red Devils over a new deal to extend his stay at Old Trafford beyond this season.
However, the United number one will be on significantly reduced wages.
The Telegraph reports that to get Raya, United will need to outdo their Premier League competitors to the 27-year-old.
Chelsea and Tottenham also retain an interest in the Brentford man.
“Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in David Raya and are ready to rival Tottenham Hotspur in the battle for the Brentford goalkeeper this summer, Telegraph Sport understands.”
“Spurs are closely tracking the 27-year-old as they prepare to sign a long-term successor to club captain Hugo Lloris.”
“Raya also has admirers at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, however, and the Spain international could be at the centre of a tug-of-war between three of England’s biggest clubs.”
Raya only has eighteen months left on his contract at the Brentford Community Stadium.
There is a high expectation within Brentford that he will leave at the end of the season. The London club do not want to lose him for free next season. As per The Telegraph, he is expected to cost between £15 million and £20 million.
Raya especially excels at distribution and playing with his feet, aspects of a goalkeeper Ten Hag is keen on. During the last campaign, Jurgen Klopp famously commented that Raya should have a No 10 on his back for his exceptional kicking and passing.
