Manchester United players believe Erik ten Hag knows he will be sacked – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United players are of the view that Erik ten Hag believes that he has no future at the club.

After a relatively successful first season at Old Trafford, the Dutchman’s second season has turned into something of a nightmare.

While most fans believed a league title was unachievable against the juggernaut of Manchester City, many felt that last season had shown that the squad and manager were capable of being involved in the title mix and making it to at least the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Unfortunately, United find themselves what feels like a millions miles away from challenging for either glamorous trophy. It is a sensation that is even harder to take when the Red Devils will have had to watch fellow Premier League sides, City and Arsenal, play out pulsating score draws against the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich this week.

Due to United sitting in sixth place and 11 points off the Champions League places, a spot in Europe’s premier competition looks largely out of reach for next season, barring some sort of miracle.

This has traditionally meant the sack is not too far around the corner for coaches in the United dugout and as a result, Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate, Roberto De Zerbi and Thomas Tuchel are all said to be eyeing the role at the Theatre of Dreams.

To add to this, The Sun has now reported that “players fear Erik ten Hag has now resigned himself to the sack at the end of the season”.

The outlet claims that “a number of Red Devils stars have noticed a change in the demeanour of the Dutch boss in recent weeks and players have spotted Ten Hag’s change of mood, suggesting he knows the axe will fall”.

As you would expect, the Dutchman has been publicly defiant in press conferences where he insisted just last Friday that he “had no doubts” that he would be the Manchester United manager next season.

Moreover, a report yesterday suggested that Ten Hag is heavily involved in the planning of this summer’s pre-season preparations in the United States of America.

However, whilst we are clearly not privy to the goings on at Carrington, the former Ajax man has certainly been more defensive and pricklier during pre and post-match interviews as of late.

He has hardly endeared himself to fans with his mind-boggling defence of his side’s ludicrous openness and seems genuinely irked by the notion that his side aren’t playing well in spite of the league table and goal difference.

Should the Dutchman’s time at the club really be coming to an end, it seems that he could find a home in familiar settings at Ajax, as he is reportedly the “dream candidate” for the Amsterdam club.

However, barring a catastrophic semi-final loss to Coventry City in the FA Cup later this month, United fans will most likely have to wait until the end of the season to see if the players are right about this one.
