Manchester United have Goncalo Inacio on transfer list and his skill-set suits Erik ten Hag – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag must have been cursing his luck when news broke that both his first-choice centre-backs were ruled out for the season.

There is still a chance that Raphael Varane returns before the season ending but for now, the Dutch manager will have to manage with Luke Shaw as a centre-back and either Victor Lindelof or Harry Maguire beside him.

The club captain was at fault for the Sevilla debacle and his future is uncertain with many reports linking him with an exit in the summer.

The Swede and England man played well in the FA Cup semifinal victory but United conceded two disappointing goals against Tottenham in the second-half.

United facing major defensive issues at fag end of season

Without Martinez, the back-four lose potency both in terms of shape and forward impetus and thus the United manager has plans to add a defender to the mix ahead of next season.

While a lot of defenders have been linked with the Red Devils, the profile of Goncalo Inacio stands out among the crowd.

He is left-footed and is a major draw for top teams and his passing ability from the back and his defensive acumen have impressed one and all.

As reported by Record (via Sport Witness), the 21-year-old is ‘one of the most coveted’ players in Europe after his performances this season for Sporting Lisbon.

The Portugal international has made 47 appearances across all competitions and managed three goals and as many assists.

His current release clause stands at €45m and the report mentions he is “also on the list” of players United are looking at and the club “intend to sign” at least one more central defender.

It is mentioned that with the Portuguese side set to miss out on Champions League football next season, they will be looking to raise capital by offloading one of their top stars.

Inacio’s profile is of interest to United

The Portuguese side are in negotiations with the player’s camp over a new deal that will add a year to his deal and increase his release clause to €80m.

The player does not want a clause of more than €70million as that might hamper a potential move.

The same report also cited O Jogo and mentioned that Sporting believe “a proposal may arrive at any moment” from either United or his other suitors.

Inacio’s skill-set certainly helps with what Ten Hag wants from his defence and he would be a perfect under-study for Martinez if the deal does go through.
