Luke Shaw reveals Jadon Sancho pep talk before vital penalty in shootout win over Brighton – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United secured their place in their second domestic cup final of the season after beating Brighton on penalties in the FA Cup semifinal on a tense Sunday afternoon at Wembley.

United eventually won the shootout by 7 goals to 6 with Solly March the only player to miss his spot kick.

The Brighton man fired high and wide of David de Gea’s goal with every United player scoring their spot-kicks.

United’s successful penalty takers included Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho and both showed huge bottle after famously missing their kicks in the same ground in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

Sancho and Rashford had both suffered horrendous abuse after failing to score for England but confidently kept United’s 100% record intact on Sunday.

Part of the England team that night was Luke Shaw and as reported by The Mirror, the left-back revealed his words of encouragement to Sancho before Sunday’s shootout.

“I think maybe what was playing on (Sancho and Rashford’s) minds are the things that come with it – the racism and stuff that they experienced last time.

“I was next to Jadon. I said: ‘whatever happens, happens, just be confident. It’s part of football. Things happen, these things happen,” said Shaw.

Shaw then praised the duo’s mentality for stepping up and admitted he was delighted to see the ball hit the net from both players.

“But, of course, for me, they showed amazing confidence to step up and because the last time they took one in a shootout it was, of course, here and the memories of that.

“But I’m really happy for both of them to put themselves forward and take really good penalties,” he added.

Shaw himself was outstanding on Sunday afternoon as he filled in at centre-half next to Man of The Match Victor Lindelof.

United defended admirably against a talented Brighton side, hardly giving them any chances and set up a mouthwatering all-Manchester final in June.

Erik ten Hag will be looking to get his men back to full fitness to give themselves the best chance to add to their Carabao Cup win in February and underline an undoubted season of progress under the Dutchman’s tutelage.
