Lukaku would have tough task to be welcomed back to Chelsea – Talk Chelsea

As you would have seen from Matt Law’s report on The Telegraph yesterday, Chelsea apparently want to speak to Romelu Lukaku about coming back to the club.

Personally, I just cannot see it happening, and I don’t think it should be allowed to either.

Admittedly though I did think I’d be more angry at the fact this is even being spoken about, but I can vaguely see some of the positives mentioned by the few who would welcome this.

Ultimately I do not want Lukaku back, nor do I think it will happen. Also, with the bridges so badly burned, I’ve seen a lot of annoyance from Chelsea fans who’s opinions I respect, fans who will not even remotely accept Lukaku coming back. I think the fan anger might outweigh those in support of it, and we know how much the board look at and appreciate fan reaction.

Having said that, there are also many fans who I respect on the other side of this who are open to Lukaku coming back – so it certainly won’t be a unanimous reaction from the fan base. But on the whole, if Lukaku wants to come back, he will have a super tough task to be wholly welcomed back by this fan base.

I want to see us bring in another striker. But if bringing Lukaku back means we have a bigger budget to spend on our most pressing position – a defensive midfielder, then I might be more willing to accept it. And fans are fickle, If Lukaku comes in and bangs the goals in, we will all soon be forgiving and forgetting.

For me to accept it, I would need to see a sincere apology and I would need to see 100% effort and Lukaku out there fighting every day for the this club and for the badge. Will I see any of that? I do doubt it.

To conclude, I think the situation is very complex and not straight forward. I don’t want to see Lukaku back at this club but there are scenarios where I might accept it – I certainly don’t think all fans will be willing to forgive and forget though.
